Ballet is a wonderful showcase of speed, balance and grace that can evoke deep and meaningful experiences but what are your first thoughts when I mention ‘The Ballet’? Is it one of curiosity as you consider the prospect of attending your first performance? Or is one of familiarity, as your mind goes back to when you witnessed your first ballet performance?
Theatre is a somewhat under-rated format in the modern world of cinema and television, but that hasn’t stopped it from carving out its own place in the market of entertainment. There is still the magic of theatre present and you can experience it for yourself very soon.
It wasn’t long ago that I was writing about the launch of The Lowry’s new exhibition series ‘Performer as Curator’ that seeks to give a rare insight into the possible inspirations and workings of your favourite performers! The first performer to present their work to The Lowry was Alison Goldfrapp and she has been a revelation.
The Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) has been protecting the coasts of Britain since 1824. They are a dedicated group of individuals that specializes in saving lives at sea all around Britain, with only 40,000 volunteers. They are like a Superhero team but better and more relevant! Sure they are a fantastic group, but what does this have to do with the lovely Salford people?
I think a better question would be: When are we not craving some unique and exciting art? We would get bored looking at the same piece of art over and over again; we need to broaden our horizons and think outside the box- otherwise, what’s the point?
In the current political climate, when discussing the environment and our way of life, the word “sustainable” is thrown around an awful lot. Sustainable means conserving an ecological balance by avoiding depletion of natural resources. You know that, I know that – but what does that mean for Salford?
It’s no secret that funding for galleries, museums and historic institutions is tight, and that budget cuts have been rife over the last few years. However it now seems that this struggle for money has reached Salford’s own historic house, Ordsall Hall, and it may now be facing closure on Fridays.
