Have you heard of this celebratory day? No? Well, it’s a thing. Originally created by Radio DJ Tom Birdsey in 2002. Its creation was a holiday to rival Valentine’s Day on February 14th but one month later.

Mother’s Day is fast approaching (22nd March) and if you want to take your Mum somewhere nice you need to start thinking about it now. Historically Mother’s Day was the day when children and young people in service were given a day off to visit their families or originally return to their ‘mother’ Church. The tradition of giving gifts came from wildflowers picked along the way either to place in Church or give to their mothers. Now we celebrate by gift giving, giving Mum a rest from the chores or taking her out. So here are a few ideas to help you:-
It’s time to give your walking boots a Spring Clean and join in the fun. People may not realise that May is the National Walking Month allowing folks to take advantage of fine days, we hope, and longer hours of daylight in which to get out and about. The benefits of walking are many-fold, physical, mental wellbeing and for many a spiritual lift by visiting outstanding places of natural beauty both locally and throughout our green and pleasant land.
St Valentine was a Roman who married people against Roman law, this was capital offence as it was illegal to marry soldiers and Christians. St Valentine eventually paid the ultimate price and before his execution he wrote a parting message to his sweetheart saying, ‘from Your Valentine’.
Australians both at home and those who live and work around the globe, very many of whom live here in the United Kingdom, will celebrate their National Day.
