Some of England’s greatest artists have found inspiration in and around Sudbury including one of Sudbury’s most famous sons, Thomas Gainsborough. Until the July 24, Gainsborough's House are displaying nine landscape paintings from the Dutch Golden Age. This is an international collaboration with the Rijksmuseum Twenthe, a museum and gallery in the Netherlands. As a young artist, Thomas Gainsborough was greatly inspired by the Dutch landscape tradition of the seventeenth century.
Between 1914 and 1918, from the Suffolk village of Hartest, which lies eight miles from Sudbury, a group of men went to war. Ordinary men, butchers, farmers and carpenters went to serve their country.
