This weekend, most of us Shrewsbury folk are probably spending the day thanking our dads for being top blokes. Father's Day is actually a pretty modern thing, and like a number of things, it can make us spend money - and it all started in America.
A former town and county cricketer is looking forward to returning to Shrewsbury as his Worcestershire team takes on Shropshire County Cricket Club. Jack Shantry will be bowling in a special Twenty20 challenge match at London Road on June 13th.

Nine Shrewsbury legal advisers are gearing up to abseil down a rock face for charity. The solicitors from Lanyon Bowdler will be undertaking the feat on June 23rd to raise funds for The Child Brain Injury Trust.

Shropshire Cricket Club is counting on the skills of former England under-19 captain Bilal Shafayat to help them win their match against Suffolk this weekend. With so many matches rained off so far this season, the club needs a win to progress further.

Shrewsbury Town Council has come up with a 'blooming marvellous' scheme to get local businesses involved with the Olympic torch procession and the Queen's Jubilee. Patriotic flags are being given out for every hanging basket bought and displayed.
Shrewsbury caravan dealership Salop Leisure has treated its middle management to a team building fitness day with Shropshire based personal trainers, UFE. The session has now led to further investment in the health and wellbeing of their staff.

Shropshire County Cricket Club has a new chairman in the form of Shrewsbury surveyor Toby Shaw. Mr Shaw says he is optimistic he can continue driving the club in a positive direction across the upcoming season and beyond.
