Staff at a Shropshire cleaning company will be donning feather dusters for a photo shoot, gym gear for a 24-hour fitness challenge and ripping the wax off any brave supporters as part of their 12-month charity campaign.

Kelly Ward and her team of 26 staff at Mrs Mopp Cleaning Services, who cover the Shrewsbury and Telford areas, have unveiled the packed programme of fundraising events after naming Severn Hospice as their nominated charity for 2012 to 2013.

Support:

The hospice was nominated after one of the cleaners was diagnosed with cancer and her colleagues wanted to do something to show their support as she undergoes treatment.

Cheryl Phipps, company office administrator, said she was also leading the charity campaign as her father died of cancer when she was just a teenager.

The programme of events include a calendar where the moppettes may bare all with just their feather dusters in place; a get fit “cleaning with Mrs Mopp” DVD where the cleaners will show off some house work exercises for both able bodied and disabled people and also a sponsored swim with a pink theme.

24-hour bike ride:

Mrs Phipps said the staff were also willing to put their fitness to the test by joining in a Big Brother-style 24-hour bike ride which would involve sessions on an exercise bike at the company base in Telford with a web-cam on to check they do not cheat.

“We’ve already had lots of fun brainstorming the ideas which are never ending when the moppettes get their heads together.

“We know we can raise thousands of pounds throughout the year which would be fantastic for Severn Hospice.

“We are also looking to team up with other businesses which can help us. For example we hope to organise a fun day which would involve dozens of businesses across the area,” she said.

“We hope to include a bbq, football shoot out, stalls, inflatables – and hopefully everyone will hand over a percentage of their proceeds to the charity.”

Other events in the 12-month programme include a sponsored wax, sponsored car wash, a sports day and a “charity ball on a budget” to make it affordable for everyone.

Big Charity Clean:

Company owner, Mrs Ward said she was also planning a month-long “big charity clean” where she will be giving clients 10 per cent discount which the company will hand over to Severn Hospice in the hope the client will match it by paying their usual full invoice.

Mike Perry, spokesman for Severn Hospice said: “At Severn Hospice we rely heavily on the people within our community, and on the organisations that represent them, to help us to provide the care and support that we are able to give to our patients and their families. “We would like to offer our sincere thanks to Kelly and the team of moppettes at Mrs Mopp for supporting us so extensively throughout the coming year.”
