Last Sunday, despite the weather, the Y-Front Run for charity in Alexandra Park occurred to raise money and awareness for male cancers. Jo Brazier set up the Y-Front Run in 2013 and the event is growing in participation and raising funds for charities supporting male cancer. “We are a campaign dedicated to helping males of all ages across the country get the support, information and treatment they need to overcome all forms of male cancer from testicular to breast. We run a 5k and 10k race event in Hastings every year to support this aim along with primary school race events.” For more info please go to their website http://www.yfrontrun.co.uk/
I was asked by Jo to be a sponsor and provide a balloon prize for the junior winner of the 5km event. I said yes and I created Captain Y-Front using the ideas Jo suggested and the Y-Front Run logo. I made a small version for Jo’s approval and she loved it but wanted it larger for the actual prize. So I made a bigger Captain Y-Front and took it to the park on the morning of the race. It was raining all morning and the race started on time with about 100 or so men dressed in costumes, rain gear and even just underpants, running around Alexandra Park in Hastings. There were a few people exhibiting their wares and services relating to health and wellbeing. It was a great atmosphere and the weather couldn’t dampen high spirits. The first junior crossed the finish line in about 40 minutes or so, and I presented the prize to him with photos taken from the local paper (the Observer) and a few other interested parties. I then stayed on to help wherever possible and unpacked medals then guided people to the finishing tent for medals and bottles or water.
