With less than 2 weeks to go many of us are gearing up for the annual indulgence of turkey, ham and all the trimmings that spells only one thing: Christmas dinner.
With the average indulgence on Christmas day apparently being in excess of 6,000 calories it's clear that going big on Christmas dinner is common in many UK households... so it follows that there tends to be a fairly hefty amount of leftovers by Boxing Day.
It's a real balancing act - making sure there's enough for everyone but not going too overboard so that there's a huge amount of food waste. We're pretty sure you'd struggle to find a household that didn't have a few slices of turkey or ham left for Boxing Day!
Before we even get to Boxing Day though, how about changing things up and doing a spiced turkey for your Christmas Day? We're not talking full on Vindaloo in terms of spicy heat but you could always follow Nigella's lead and include some simple additions of oranges, cinnamon sticks, and scattering of spices for extra flavour.
Christmas Day aside, what do you end up doing with the turkey slices left on Boxing Day? Or the leftover ham?!
One excellent way to use it up and create a meal that's completely different to the original one is to spice it up! Let's face it, there are only so many turkey or ham sandwiches you can take so embrace the spice and turn the leftovers into a curry.
Some of our favourites with links to recipes we've found online are:
Turkey potato curry A great way turn your leftover turkey into a healthy meal that hits the spot for a Boxing Day dinner.
Moroccan spiced turkey rice This is a speedy dish that embraces a little heat and creates a delicious dish for all to enjoy.
Turkey hummus We even came across this recipe which really does throw up a different spicy use for turkey!
Spicy Ham and Potato Breakfast Hash Why wait till dinner to use up those leftovers when you can start with breakfast?! This recipe will make a great start to Boxing Day!
Spicy bubble and squeak An excellent way to throw all your leftovers in - turkey, ham and vegetables altogether!
We don't mean dealing with your leftovers of course! We mean avoiding them altogether by taking care of the Christmas meal for you!
Why not skip all the stress of cooking Christmas dinner this year and let Bay Spice, one of Hasting's favourite Indian restaurants, do it for you.
There are a very limited number of bookings available for Christmas Day lunch either at 12pm or 3:30pm offering both an Indian and English menu with a choice of roast beef or roast Turkey.
