Great news that last week’s Jersey Swimarathon raised a record-breaking £137,000 for the Lions Club of Jersey.
This year's Swimarathon attracted more swimmers than ever before. Over 3,500 islanders took to the water to raise money for this year’s main beneficiaries, Holidays for Heroes and Jersey Special Gymnastics Club. In addition to the many islanders that sponsored a swimmer a big thank you should also go to the sponsors of the event, RBC Wealth Management who also make a donation for every lap swum over the five days. I should mention that I am a bit biased here as I worked for RBC for many years and think that they, along with many other members of the local business community do much to support the island and island causes without always getting the credit they deserve.
It is also worth noting that the RBC teams that swam on Sunday raised over £5,000 for the Lions Club through team sponsorship and fundraising activities - an increase on last year.
The Jersey Swimarathon is an excellent event which has huge local support and which benefits the wider community which I hope will continue to go from strength to strength in the years to come. The number of teams participating this year is testament to the Island’s continued passion and enthusiasm for the event.
I understand that RBC will continue supporting the Swimarathon on its 40th anniversary next year.
