Movember 2012 is upon us – time to grow your moustache!
Years ago when lads liked their hair long a moustache and possibly a beard was regarded as being very fashionable and along with the crowd I grew my moustache back in the day, the only thing is that I have never shaved mine off, it has been attached to my upper lip for more than 35 years (by the way the photo above is NOT me!). Over the years fashion has moved on and, unfortunately, hardly any men (other than me and the guy in the photo) now wear a moustache.
So it was with mixed feelings that I learned a few years ago that some bright spark had come up with a novel way to raise awareness of prostate cancer and help raise funds at the same time, the idea was to get men to grow a moustache during the month of November, this is now officially ‘Mo’ month. I have to admit that this is a great idea but no one seems to want to retain their Mo after the end of the month, why not, I ask, do the men of today not feel that a moustache adds to their handsome, macho image?
So, it is once again time to pay attention to your top lip and grow a moustache in the month of November! Following on from the amazing success of the 2011 event where over 850,000 Mo Bros and Mo Sistas got on board worldwide, raising $126 million, this year it is hoped that even more people will take part and help raise awareness of prostate cancer.
The rules are simple:
• Register on the Movember website and set up your Mo Page at www.movember.com
• You should have started on the 1st November clean shaven and do not shave your moustache for the whole month
• No goatees and no beards!
• Help raise awareness of prostate cancer and ask people for sponsorship
For more information about how to take part, the prizes on offer and details of how The Prostate Cancer Charity has benefitted from Movember, please visit www.movember.com.
Please let me know if you are taking part and if so, do you intend to keep your new Mo after November. Did anyone keep their Mo from last year? Please send me some pictures as you progress and I will show these on future Blogs.
