Movember 2010 is nearly here – prepare your moustache! Years ago when lads liked their hair long a moustache and possibly a beard was regarded as being very fashionable and along with the crowd I grew my moustache back in the day, the only thing is that I have never shaved mine off, it has been attached to my upper lip for more than 30 years. Over the years fashion has moved on and, unfortunately, hardly any men (other than me) now wear a moustache.
So it was with mixed feelings that I learned a couple of years ago that some bright spark had come up with a novel way to raise awareness of prostate cancer and help raise funds at the same time, the idea was to get men to grow a moustache during the month of November, this is now officially ‘Mo’ month. I have to admit that this is a great idea but no one seems to want to retain their Mo after the end of the month, why not, I ask, do the men of today not feel that a moustache adds to their hansom, macho image?
So it is once again time to pay attention to your top lip and grow a moustache in the month of November! Following on from the amazing success of the 2009 event where 45,000 Mo Bro’s raised over £5 million, this year it is hoped that even more people will take part and help raise awareness of prostate cancer.
The rules are simple:
• Register on the Movember website and set up your Mo Page at www.movember.com
• Start on the 1st November clean shaven and do not shave your moustache for the whole month
• No goatees and no beards!
• Help raise awareness of prostate cancer and ask people for sponsorship
This year’s campaign focuses on the idea that every man deserves a little bit of luxury so act like a modern gentleman and grow a moustache.
For more information about how to take part, the prizes on offer and details of how The Prostate Cancer Charity has benefitted from Movember, please visit www.movember.com.
My question is, how many Jersey gents taking part have the good sense to retain their Mo after the end of the Month? Please let me know if you are taking part and if so, do you intend to keep your new Mo after November.
