Pam and I like walking and Pam in particular used to walk for miles with our much loved Westie Max, unfortunately we had to have him put down last summer and since then we have both found it more difficult to get motivated to walk.

This is why we were both pleased to receive a Christmas gift of ‘Discovering Jersey – 30 Circular Walks’ as we thought that trying out some new walks would be interesting and the fact that each walk has it’s start and finish in the same place makes it convenient for us to drive to the designated starting points.

We have now tried out a number of the walks and we have been very pleased with this book for a number of reasons:

  • The book is loose leaf and ring bound so that it is easy to keep open when on the move without damaging the book.
  • The pages are of good quality and thicker than normal so they should not easily tear or get damaged.
  • Each walk is graded for difficulty and estimated time to complete. For those walks that we have completed so far the grading and timings were, for us, fairly accurate.
  • There is a good variety of walks to choose from taking between 45 minutes and over 3 hours and ranging in difficulty from easy to very hard. One of the quickest and easiest (that we started with) was a 45 minute walk along the cliffs by Portlet Common at the other extreme is a 3hour 20 minutes walk that encompasses the cliff path from Greve de Lecq to Plemont and then via some historic St.Ouen lanes back to Greve that is graded and very hard.
  • The directions are very comprehensive and if followed accurately you should not get lost.
  • There is a useful commentary that is built into the walk directions that points out landmarks and items of historical interest that are seen during the course of the walk.

If you have this book I would be interested to hear from you with your feedback.

Happy walking!!
