At the House of Commons on evening of 11 November Liz Kendall MP, Shadow Minister for Care and Older People, will be presenting BDK Architects principal Paul W Harding RIBA MIoD with his 2014 Green World Ambassador insignia.

Paul Harding BA(Hons) DipArch(Dist) RIBA MIoD, Principal Chartered Architect of BDK Architects commented –

In 2014 I will be celebrating 25 years as Principal of BDK Architects and this national endorsement is a tribute to our class-leading work and innovation over many years.

For over 20 years BDK Architects have been producing cutting edge ecological building solutions, starting with an early Award for energy conservation. Notable amongst our eco-friendly buildings is Jersey Archive where fifteen years ago we adopted an innovative passive environmental control system eliminating energy hungry air conditioning required for most modern Archive buildings. I am honoured to be attending the House of Commons on 11 November when BDK Architects will be presented with our 2014 Green World Ambassador insignia.

In this connection there has been some local comment about our scheme for Plemont. During the Public Inquiry last Autumn the Advocate representing the lobby groups accepted our design, reverting 2/3rds of my Client’s site (over 11 vergees) to natural landscape closest to the headland for enjoyment of Jersey’s public, does comprise a substantial environmental improvement and for this reason the Planning Inspector recommended the Planning Minister approved the application. No doubt this was a balanced decision, but it has been conclusively established our scheme is the only viable option that brings substantial environmental and landscape character benefits without any cost to the Island. This philosophy is totally in-line with our work on sustainable development, which I am thrilled has now achieved national UK wide recognition”

Live interview with Paul Harding available from 4.00pm Monday 11 November by calling 07797 740420, or after arrival back in Jersey Tuesday 12 November 3.00pm onwards.
