Each year a cycle challenge is organised by Jersey Hospice Care Fundraising Limited in conjunction with Discover Adventure, a company which designs and operates active and challenging trips worldwide. This September the challenge is to be held in China and we cycle part of the Great Wall, those taking part have to follow the mountains up and round the outside! The total cycle will cover around 500km (roughly 300 miles) of rough and hilly terrain, averaging between 80-100km (roughly 6-8 hours) per day, over 7 days (total trip being 11 days including travel). The cycle will be lead by an experienced expedition leader appointed by Discover Adventure and they will be supported by an experienced team including guides, bike technicians and even a doctor.
I am Emily Le Beuvant and from my perspective I am taking part both to prove that I can do it and raise funds for Hospice. I do not find it easy to ‘promote’ myself and raising funds will be a challenge in itself. This is why I welcomed the opportunity to Blog about what I am up to as this provides me with a way to connect with local people who I may not know, let them know about what I am doing and why. Hopefully I will gain some support as a result. While donations are my ultimate objective you can also help me by following my future Blogs and by letting your friends and family know about what I am up to.
Jersey Hospice Care is a specialist palliative nursing service which provides holistic care, free of charge, to islanders with cancer and motor neuron disease. These services are provided within patients' homes, day hospice and the in-patient unit at Clarkson House. There is also a community bereavement service available to both adults and children who have suffered a loss, regardless of the nature of bereavement.
As Jersey Hospice Care are an independent charity they rely on the kindness and generosity of supporters in Jersey and further afield, which is where you come in. In order to take part on the trip I have agreed to raise a set sum of sponsorship and I am hoping that with the generosity of friends, family and any other supporters then I will be able to reach my target. So on that note, if you are able to spare a few pennies (or pounds) for charity, please click here to make a donation; Choose 'Bedell China Challenge 2013' from the 'Select Event' list;Select 'Emily Le Beuvant' from the 'Select Participant' list
And the rest is up to you…
Thank you for taking your time to read this, I really hope you can help me to reach my goal and support the trip of a lifetime whilst raising money for a well deserved charity.
This is the first of a series of Blogs that will chart my progress in training, please keep and eye out for these and let me know if you support what I am doing.
Many thanks Emily
