The Captains is a popular traditional public house, inn, bistro & bar in Guernsey offering bed & breakfast and guest house facilities. Renowned for their generous portions at reasonable prices, fresh seafood, daily specials and warm, friendly atmosphere, The Captains is a firm favourite with locals and visitors alike.

Traditional Decor, Modern Facilities

The Captains is one of the few remaining traditional Guernsey Pubs. Best described as an Inn with rooms, it has the feel of a village pub and is situated in the lanes in the parish of St Martin. There is a busy Bistro area with a traditional low ceiling, oak beams bar downstairs offering a cozy atmosphere. The summer of 2017 saw the opening of an additional new bar and decking area, offering a more contemporary feel.

The Captains has 9 bedrooms, all ensuite and is open throughout the year, offering room only and bed and Breakfast rates.

In this modern world of overly commercialised gastro pubs, wine bars and large hotel & restaurant chains, The Captain's provides a more personal service and a warm welcome, akin to the family-run inns of bygone days which were at the heart of their local communities.

Ali & Colin de la Mare have been running The Captains Hotel in Guernsey for the past twenty three years; they continue to maintain its admirable reputation as a place that both visitors and locals return to time and again for that comfy 'home away from home' experience.

A Warm Welcome All Year Round

The bar of The Captains Hotel is a traditional old Guernsey pub with a low ceiling that features the building's original oak beams. The floor is carpeted, unlike many bars, which adds to the warm, cosy ambience. The walls feature many items of interest from copper and brass work to paintings and trophies. A wide range of beverages are available including draught beers.

The ambience is that of a relaxed country tavern. A rare place to treasure when you just want to relax, away from the hustle and bustle of modern life. The Captains is frequented by regulars from all over the island, which speaks volumes when you consider the wide range of public houses that Guernsey offers.

The upstairs bar and decking area opened in 2017 and offers a slightly larger range of drinks, Gin and Rum being the popular tastes of the moment.

The large screen TV offers guests and passers by the opportunity to pop in and catch the latest scores of their favourite sport, from tennis to cricket, athletics to football and everything in between.

The Captains has a reputation for good food at a reasonable price. On the menu you will find traditional bar meals, continental cuisine, pizza and pasta, plus many of the owners' favourites such as Seafood Gratin, Lobster Thermidor, Local Crab and Scallops

In addition to the diverse menu the restaurant also has a varied specials board featuring fresh fish and seafood which will vary according to each day's local catch. Popular with both locals and visitors, many of the hotel's guests still choose to eat here most nights of their stay despite the wide range of other restaurants nearby.

 Your Home Away From Home

With nine en-suite bedrooms, decorated in a light and airy style, with a television plus tea and coffee making facilities in every room, you can rest well - with extra personal touches such as a dish of sweets and a range of Elsyl toiletries as welcoming treats.
