We live in a great World, full of happiness and opportunity and people that will go out of their way to help you. But there is a minority for whom this isn't the case, this is clear from any news station you happen to tune in to. National Personal Safety Day, due to be held on Monday 8th October, aims to raise awareness of simple ways to keep safe and avoid violence, helping you to feel more confident and safe in your area.

National Personal Safety Day is organised by the Suzy Lamplugh Trust, a Trust created by the parents of estate agent Suzy Lamplugh who disappeared in 1986 and has never been found. Their mission is to make people aware of the importance of personal safety.

The campaign for National Personal Safety Day 2012 is called 'Tech No Chances'.

Technology is a wonderful thing that few of us could see ourselves doing without. When it comes to personal safety it can be of great benefit: A teenager can text their parent to collect them if they are stranded; a pensioner can phone a friend if they have a problem and we can all keep in touch with family, friends and colleagues to check if they are ok. However there can be risks associated with some
technology. This campaign will highlight some practical, common sense precautions people can take to ensure that their personal technology works for them, not against them.

It's a great thing to be aware of, especially in this day and age. Everyone can get involved, from businesses to schools. For more information about this, and what you can do to raise awareness, check out the National Personal Safety Day website, located here.

Personal Safety also includes feeling safe in your home. We have a number of businesses here in Bolton that are able to provide assistance should you feel you need more protection.

Authorized Access have a great range of products that can increase security around your home, including new locks, wireless alarms, CCTV systems and much more.

In extreme circumstances, Leisure Guard Security can provide private clients with a team of security experts to kepp you protected under any circumstances.

I only recently wrote about an excellent new product from Westwood Electrical, which is a multi-purpose security light incorporating audio and visual capabilities. More information on that can be found here.

Also, remember, the police are always available to anyone that feels threatened or in danger in any way. If it is an emergency, call them on 999. However, to talk to someone in a different capacity, more information can be found here.
