A lot of people hate winter driving, but whether you like it or not you have to make sure you are prepared for extreme weather conditions during the festive period and winter months. Make sure you get your car and yourself prepared for driving, these tips will definitely help.

Batteries

It is important that you keep a check on your batteries. The bad weather can put a strain on your car causing breakdowns so you definitely have to make sure yours is in full working condition. You'll also be using more lights as the nights will be darker so get your car checked!

Anti-Freeze

Anti-freeze can help so much, it is important that all your windows and car parts aren't frozen up this winter. So avoid engine failure and get yourself stocked up with anti-freeze, it only costs a few pounds, but new parts for your car when they freeze over can be so much more expensive.

What's great is, if you pop into Whitecroft Garage before the end of December, you can get a free battery and anti-freeze check, you can view this offer here.

There are also so many other things you need to check on your car for preparing for the bad weather and these are just important. Like making sure your tyres have at least 3mm of tread remaining, and of course are full of air.

You will also need to make sure there is no snow or ice restricting your view, as this can be dangerous and can also get you a fine. To make sure this doesn't happen, always keep the necessities close by. It is important to keep these handy:

  • Ice Scraper and De-Icer
  • Torch and spare batteries
  • Warm clothes and a blanket
  • Boots
  • First Aid Kit
  • Jump Leads
  •  Food and Drink
  • A shovel
  • A reflective warning sign
  • Sunglasses

If you feel your car isn't prepared and would like expert advice, why not book in for an MOT with Crompton Way Motors, you can find more information here or give them a call on (01204) 684043.

Also, why not get in touch with Perfect Finish offering quality car body repairs, you can find out more information about them here or give them a call on (01204 689934)

And a little word of warning from Greater Manchester Police... no matter how cold, how frozen and how tempted you are DO NOT leave your car on the drive defrosting with the keys in the ignition. Thieves are waiting for opportunities like these and your insurers will NOT pay out!

Don't risk the chance of a breakdown, keep safe and keep prepared.
