Smithills Open Farm is open to visitors throughout the Winter months between 10 am and 5 pm seven days a week, with the exception of Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day. Families looking for a day out in the fresh air in the run up to Christmas need not travel far.

The family run farm is set within 70 acres of glorious Lancashire countryside with fine views and excellent open spaces, why not fill your lungs with superb fresh air and enjoy changing down a gear during the frantic rush toward Christmas.

Working farms are always busy with animal husbandry and the many daily tasks of running a busy animal based business consequently there is always something happening and much to see.

Smithills Open Farm always has something special happening, new animals arriving to replace those that have moved on, new life to delight in as well.

There are over 25 different species of animals at Smithills Open Farm, from Dairy animals to stick insects, and hissy snakes to deer, and pigs, goats, sheep, rabbits, llamas, owls, eagles, donkeys, ducks, there is so much to see and some to feed and stroke too - but not the python perhaps.

Christmas special Fun Days at Smithills Farm include:

  • Saturday 3rd and Sunday 4th December 11 - 4
  • Saturday 10th and Sunday 11th December 11-4
  • Saturday 17th every day until Wednesday 24th December from 11 - 4
  • Watch Santa arrive at his Grotto
  • Santa's Grotto

Aside from the animals, there are a lot of other things to do at Smithills Open Farm, there is an adventure playground for the youngsters to burn off some surplus energy, an inflatable assault course, a sandpit for the younger ones, donkey rides-these lovely docile animals are such a pleasure to see, a tractor tour where you can see the farm without getting ones wellies muddy, a souvenir shop full of goodies, and a rather nice café that sells everything from ice cream to sausage, chips and beans, this is especially welcome on a cold winters day.

Smithills Open Farm also welcomes Christmas School Organised Trips especially Key Stage 2 children. Educational visits are their speciality with hands-on contact and interactive fun.

The trips will include a tur guide who will be able to explain each process and every animal interaction for the children.

Prices during November stand at £6 per child with all adults free.

During December, the prices will be £8 per child with all adults free and a visit to Santa is included in the price.

Groups must be 15 children or more. Bookings may be made on 01204 595765.
