World Smile Day is always on the first Friday of every month, since it was first launched in 1999 by Harvey Ball, who created the yellow smiley face years earlier. He felt though that his design was becoming too commercialised and the real meaning of it was being lost. Harvey therefore started World Smile Day to encourage people to do one act of kindness every day and make someone smile. He believed that it didn’t matter what your culture or politics was, everybody should spread some happiness in the world. It takes less muscles to smile then it does to frown don’t you know!
