For years motorists, especially new car owners, were held captive by the main dealerships under the premise that their cars needed to be serviced and maintained by them otherwise the car warranty will be invalidated.
This is not the case and hasn’t been for quite some time, but it’s still something that the general public is unsure about.
Well, in 2002, the European Union introduced new clauses to the “Motor Vehicle Block Exemption Regulations” with the intention to “increase choice when it comes to servicing of a new car. You cannot be obliged e.g as a condition of warranty, to have your car serviced by a franchised dealer” (theaa.com).
This increased choice in where drivers can take their cars is to help reduce the owner’s costs, which can only be a good thing. Spread the word because as mentioned earlier, this is still not common knowledge and people still think they need to go to their main dealer.
One thing you need to bear in mind is that the garages still need to follow the manufacturers service schedules, guidelines and use the correct parts for the job, so whilst local garages should be cheaper than the main dealerships, if they are really cheap and the price seems too good to be true then it probably is, so be careful.
Lostock Motor Works follow all the correct procedures and manufactures service schedules so your warranty won’t be affected. For a free no obligation quote or if you have any questions, please call them on 01204 478 120 and their experienced mechanics will be happy to help.
