Having fun need not cost a fortune, you can have a great time without spending your cash. Here are a few ideas. Being active need not be expensive and some of the simplest things can entertain and improve the lives of our kid’s, and us too.

  • Visit your local park. There is a lot to do in a local park, many have play areas where children of all ages can swing and slide to their heart content, and they are free. Also, a kick about with a ball, can great fun.
  • Cycle rides, Bolton and district has many super places to see and things to do. We tend not to ‘see’ our own home town, because it is nothing new, but in reality there is so much to see, all we have to do is look around us at the buildings, the park lands and our unique countryside. Fabulous!
  • Visit local industrial themed sites, such as Barrow Bridge Village, a place redolent with living history of our former industrial community.
  • Take a long walk along the canal paths of the Canal in Bolton where much restoration is continuing to preserve this important part of our heritage. At Nob End are the former workshops of the canal, followed by two canal cottages and the former canal manager’s house; opposite is the imposing Wellfield House and the former Nob Inn. From Nob End the canal clings to the top of the hillside above the River Croal, remaining on one level into Bolton. This is a rich resource of local knowledge and understanding of our past glory as a manufacturing nation.

There are so many things to do, without needing money, for both young and old. The key is to get exercise, feed the soul by getting out and about in the fresh air, and learn something of our culture along the way, and have a good time doing it.
