The latest data for Bolton is now available.  August is traditionally a quiet month in the jobs market locally.  64.9% of the working age population are in employment and the JSA claimant count rose by 142 to 8,236.  The top ten notified vacancies by occupation were:

 

Sales representatives 190

Care assistants and home carers 116

Telephone salespersons 82

Customer care occupations 78

Heavy goods vehicle drivers 78

Cleaners, domestics 61

Packers, bottlers, canners, fillers 58

Call centre agents/operators 56

Sales related occupations 42

Sales and retail assistants 41

 

The most popular jobs for applicants appear to be in sales and retail, with Telesales and Contact Centres overlooked.

New vacancies notified to Jobcentre Plus was down on the previous month at 1472 (July - 1538), which is not unusual at this time of year.  The good news is this is up by 12% from a year ago (when new vacancies were 1314).
