These days everyone is looking at ways they can save money and reducing your energy costs is a great starting point.

Here are some fantastic energy saving ideas from Anne Peat of the Utility Warehouse to give you a kick start into reducing your energy costs not only at home but in your business too.

  1. Install a programmable thermostat to keep your house comfortably warm in the winter and comfortably cool in the summer.
  2. Use compact fluorescent light bulbs with the ENERGY STAR®label.
  3. Turn off your computer and monitor when not in use.
  4. Plug home electronics, such as TVs and DVD players, into power strips & turn the power strips off when the equipment is not in use
  5. Lower the thermostat on your hot water heater to 120°F.
  6. Take short showers instead of Baths.
  7. Wash only full loads of dishes and clothes.
  8. To make a freezer run more efficiently put screwed up newspapers or jugs of water or polystyrene packaging into empty spaces.
  9. Fill the kettle with water from the cups you are going to use. That way you only boil the amount of water you need.
  10. If you are on Economy 7 - Set your washing machine or dishwasher on timer to run during your off peak times
