Bolton Cancer Voices have taken another step on their remarkable journey to the Royal Albert Hall, London, with their first joint rehearsal of Choirs from the East Midlands, North West and Yorkshire, who like them are participating in the ‘Festival of Brass and Voices’ in November: a concert raising money for Cancer Research UK.
The event will bring together Choirs from across the country, approximately 1500 voices, together with The Cory Band and Grimethorpe Colliery Band, in what promises to be outstanding musical extravaganza.
Karen Elliott, Chair of Bolton Cancer Voices said: -
‘It was a great first rehearsal, over in Huddersfield; a fantastic experience, which gave us a taste of what’s to come.
Singing with so many other Choirs was simply wonderful and already we are creating an amazing sound together.’
Bolton Cancer Voices have to raise an additional £13,715 this year, to fund their trip to London: a sum that covers travel to regional rehearsals ahead of the event, travel to and from London, travel to and from the Royal Albert Hall, 2 nights’ accommodation, meals and a contingency.
Membership of the Choir is free, to ensure its accessibility to all, so the Choir have turned to crowdfunding for help in reaching their goal and launched an online donations campaign in the hope of inspiring individuals, businesses and groups to be part of their amazing story and become one of their financial superheroes. ‘There really couldn’t be a more pertinent event for us to be a part of than the ‘Festival of Brass and Voices’, as cancer research in the broadest sense has saved, extended or improved the quality of life of every one of our members. Our Choir symbolizes the enormous strides achieved through research over the decades, right across the cancer pathway from diagnosis to survivorship.
I can’t begin to tell you how tremendously excited everyone is about taking part in such a prestigious concert: it will be totally awesome and is giving us all something positive and fun to focus on.’
