If you’re struggling with your finances, you probably have started wondering how to reduce your electricity bill. Your lightning accounts for around 10-20% of your electricity bill but you can decrease these amount with one simple trick – just replace your light bulbs.
The old-fashioned incandescent lighting bulbs might look cheaper at first glance, but they will actually cost you a lot of money in the long run. If you replace even a single 60W incandescent bulb with the most common type of energy-light bulb, the CFL, this will save you between £7 and £10 a year! If you want even more energy-efficient bulbs, you can switch to LED bulbs, which are slightly more expensive but have a longer life expectancy and you won’t need to replace them in the next 30 years or so.
So, think about it. Replacing around 10 bulbs in your home will save you somewhere between 70 and 100 pounds every year. Low-energy light bulbs actually use less than 20% of the energy that a conventional bulb uses, and can last up to more than 15 years. Don’t be alarmed by the term “low energy”, as these bulbs actually produce more light than the conventional one – and you still save a lot of money!
The reason why the low-energy bulbs are becoming so common around the world is their efficiency, combined with their low-energy need and long life. Not only that but they are also better for the environment and your and your family’s health. Using less energy basically means that less carbon dioxide is emitted – so you can contribute to saving the planet and preventing climate change with something as simple as switching your light bulbs!
