Public and private sector partners will be asked to commit to doing ‘one more thing’ to support local communities at the Vision conference next week.

Leaders from Bolton’s public, private, faith, voluntary, education and community sector organisations will meet at Bolton College on Monday December 1, to discuss their plans for the future with hundreds of delegates from across the town and beyond.

The conference builds upon joint working between the public, private and community sectors and delegates will be able to participate in a series of discussions, workshops and presentations throughout the conference.

Those attending will hear about the new proposals for devolution of a range of powers to Greater Manchester, and the opportunities for growth and investment that this can bring.

Delegates will also discuss how partners can encourage local communities and individuals to be more involved in meeting the challenges currently faced by Bolton, as they try to maintain services in the face of significant reductions in funding.

The council will also be launching the £500k Community Empowerment Fund, which aims to encourage all kinds of groups within local communities to come up with innovative ideas to improve their local area. Groups can receive either a one-off investment of up to £2,000 or a larger investment of up to £50,000 over 2 years to develop ideas which manage the demand for council services, make improvements to the environment or create opportunities for meeting the needs of young people.

Delegates will also hear about the progress which is being made across the borough, including boosting the economy through investment of £8.9m in various projects in Bolton town centre; and work starting on site at the Logistics North distribution site: the first two occupants Aldi & MBDA look set to bring hundreds of jobs to the borough.

Speakers will include Councillor Martin Donaghy, Mayor of Bolton; Councillor Cliff Morris, Leader of Bolton Council and Sean Harriss, Chief Executive of Bolton Council.

The Vision Marketplace will return to the conference for the second year, with a range of local partners and organisations taking a stall to display and explain their aims and how they work. Organisations who will be taking a stall include Hoot credit union, MDBA with information about their award-winning apprenticeship programme, and Bolton College and the University of Bolton. Delegates will be able to visit the stalls and get advice and information.

Chair of the Vision Partnership, Dave Singleton said: “I am looking forward to my first conference as Chair of the Vision Partnership, and to engaging with partners across the public, private and community sectors to understand how we can all contribute to better outcomes for Bolton”.
