Bolton Tuition Centre offer private tuition for children aged 6-16 and have been members of the best of Bolton for quite some time now, we asked Sherrie a few questions of what it’s like to be in business.

Sherrie said…

1. What first inspired you to run your own business?

I was working as a tutor, alongside being a supply teacher, and noticed the huge difference in the speed at which tutored children improved when compared to those who only attended state school. The atmosphere and relationships with both parents and students is much better and we all feel as though we are working towards the same goals.

2. What do you enjoy about your particular business or industry?

The feeling of accomplishment a student achieves something (no matter how small).

3. What is the one thing you want your business to stand out for?

The calm, relaxing atmosphere, the happy students, the happy parents, the great results, the fact that all of my staff are fully trained teachers who care about every student as an individual, the friendships that are formed between students of all ages.

4. Why is this important?

Everything makes my Education Centre different from having a 1-2-1 tutor who is not necessarily a teacher. The students take pride in their work and their ability to make a new student feel at home immediately.

5. To date, what has been the most memorable moment running your business - for better, worse, funny, sad or just downright ridiculous?!

Results days of 2013. Entrance exam students did well (80% acceptance), 100% pass (A* - C) form the GCSE students and my KS2 students all passed their SATs with a minimum of level 4s (approximately 90% achieved level 5s!).

6. What one piece of advice would you give to someone starting out in business?

Be prepared to work long hours for little money initially, but just remember that the feeling of success is SO much sweeter!
