Every fortnight we like to introduce you to one of the faces behind our best of Bolton businesses. This week Matthew Jones, director of The Purple Property Shop, answers our questions.

Matt was inspired to begin running his own business after getting inadequate service from estate agents when he was buying, selling and renting his own houses in the past. He thought that estate agents didn’t deliver on customer service or value for money, and so he knew that from the first day of running The Purple Property Shop they should offer value for money and good customer service as standard, and could exploit a gap in the market as other agents were left floundering.

Matt really enjoys working in the property industry. He meets many different people, sees everyone’s houses and each buyer or seller circumstances is different. He says it’s fantastic to help them move forward in their lives and to help them every step of the way, from first of all valuing the house to finally handing over the keys on the day of completion.

Therefore the most important thing that Matt wants the Purple Property Shop to stand out for is customer service. This is important because most of the Purple Property Shop’s clients like to give them positive reviews, recommendations and testimonials. They feel there is no better feeling then being asked to sell someone’s property because they’ve successfully sold a friends or family members house because they were pleased with the service they got from The Purple Property Shop and then passed the details on. In some cases they’ve some families where they’ve sold every generation of a family’s home.

They’ve had many memorable moments at The Purple Property Shop but one of Matt’s favourite moments came about when they were just starting out. In the beginning having been rejected from the banks for a bank loan, they launched The Purple Property Shop as an internet business working from home. Matt personally delivered thousands of leaflets whilst diverting any calls to his mobile phone. If the phone did ring he’d sit at the side of the road and take the booking by the roadside.

Their first major booking nearly didn’t happen because Matt’s pen wouldn’t work in the rain. He took shelter in a tattoo parlour on Tonge Moor Road where the kind woman behind the desk lent him a new piece of paper and a pen. This booking resulted in them being instructed to sell their first house, but it might have been very different if it hadn’t been for the kindest of the tattooist.

Since that time they have taken on almost 1,000 houses in 3 years and become one of Bolton’s and Bury leading estate agents
