Alliance Learning, one of the leading independent training providers in the North West, has successfully secured a Learn Direct contract for the next 12 months thanks to the help and support of Andy Burnham, MP for Leigh since 2001.

The much-coveted contract enables Alliance Learning to continue serving the people of Leigh and the surrounding area with essential skills such as Maths, English and IT, in addition to a range of employability skills to help them get back into the workplace.

The contract was formally secured at a meeting at the Leigh Centre on Friday 13th September, attended by the MP for Leigh, Alliance Learning staff, learners, and a representative from Learn Direct. Alliance Learning Chief Executive, Julie Robinson, said on the day, "This is fantastic news for both Alliance Learning and the local community. I would personally like to thank both Learn Direct and Mr Burnham for their support in securing this important contract and saving the Alliance Learning centre here in Leigh from potential closure."

Andy Burnham, Shadow Secretary for Health since 2011 as well as current local constituency MP, thanked all the staff at Learn Direct and Alliance Learning and stated, "This centre is much needed by the people of Leigh and Iâm pleased and proud to have had a small part in its continuing success."

Head of Learn Direct, Jeff Greenidge, talked about the importance of the service to the community saying, "This is vitally important to Leigh and we will all do our level best to maintain this great service."

Alliance Learning has a long history of local training successes. Maria Holding, a former learner, attended the meeting. She undertook Literacy, Numeracy and ECDL Level 1 & 2 in all areas, and talked in glowing terms about the centre. "The staff are very helpful and supportive,â she said, âand always willing to help students build up new skills as well as confidence."

Alliance Learning currently has courses available now in Math's, English and IT at various levels.
