Ironman UK launches Appeal For Volunteers At It's Bolton Event
28th June 2012

We're less than a month away from the 2012 installment of Bolton's Ironman, and an appeal has been launched to find hundreds of volunteers to make it a success.

The event, which takes place on July 22nd, will play host to thousands of spectators, as well as 1,500 athletes from across the globe looking to snatch the ultimate prize. The race itself will see competitors start with a 2.4-mile swim in Pennington Flash, cycle a 112-mile route through Rivington, Chorley and Adlington, and finish by running a full-length marathon to Bolton town centre.

For all this to take place smoothly and without a hitch, it requires a great volunteer crew. Positions are available for a number of jobs including the following :

  • Bike Catching - taking bikes from the athletes as the complete the bike course.
  • Transition - helping athletes find their kit and packing it away for them.
  • Aid Stations - handing out drinks, gels or other food to athletes.
  • Registration - athletes collect registration packs and timing chips.
  • Road Marshalling - ensuring competitors can proceed safely as well as being a point of contact for spectators viewing the event.
