Independents Day, 2013, in Bolton, hopes to encourage people to use local, independent businesses

July 4th is Independence Day in America, but UK businesses are marking an even more important day, Independents Day two days later on July 6th. Here at the bestof Bolton we champion local, independent businesses all the time and so it’s a great idea they are all being recognised on the day.

Independents Day is part of National Independent Retailer Month that hopes to persuade people to use local shops rather than national chains. It’s organised by National Skills Academy for Retail for the 3rd year running. A startling fact is if everyone spent £5 with an independent shop it would raise thousands of pounds for Bolton’s economy.

The Bolton News is backing the campaign too by having a special supplement in the newspaper in the first week of July, along with holding lots of events in the town centre, letting shoppers there know about the day. Promotional teams will hand out bags and balloons emblazed with logos of independent companies and pointing people towards where they can find the shops. Some businesses will be running special offers on the day, so we will let you know if they involve our bestof Bolton members.

So come on, we’ve over 100 local independent businesses on thebestof Bolton website at the moment. Whether you want a restaurant, butcher, photographer, clothes, a website or something else, we’ve got it all here. Don’t just users independent traders on the 6th July, use them all year round. Bolton’s high street needs you.
