How much sleep do you need?

Do you know how much sleep you need to get to maintain good health? The amount of sleep you need varies depending on your age.

Newborns up to 2 months old need around 14-18 hours of sleep every night. Although with their crying it might not feel like it!

Infants aged between 3-11 months still need 13-16 hours of sleep.

It can be hard to encourage a toddler to go to bed sometimes, but 1-3 year olds need 12-14 hours of sleep for good health, so do persevere.

Preschoolers aged between 3-5 ideally require 11-13 hours of sleep, and once children start school, they should aim to get 10-11 hours of sleep every night, until they reach the age of 12.

Having a good nights sleep is important for teenagers, as well rested people perform better in exams than those who are awake all night, so 13-17 year olds should aim to get approximately 9-10 hours of sleep every night.

Margaret Thatcher famously only needed 4 hours of sleep every night, but most adults need at least double that, between 7 and 9 hours of shut eye every night.

Make sure you get good night’s sleep with a new bed from Premier Stores, Bolton. Their new range of Harrison Beds are the ultimate in comfort and relaxation, but they have many other makes, sizes and models available, including rise and recline chairs and the same make of bed the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge reportedly have in their apartment!
