National Volunteers Week is between 1st -7th June, so what better time than to let you know of our bestof Bolton charities and the volunteering opportunities available with them. Volunteering gives you the chance to make new friends, learn new skills and gain experience that will look great on a CV.

Bolton Lads and Girls Club currently has 300+ volunteers but more people are always welcome to join their team. There are a choice of roles available, including sports development, mentoring and enterprise. All the volunteers work goes towards helping the young people of Bolton and making a difference to the club.  Their telephone number is 01204 540100. The Volunteer Centre in Bolton is having a fair in Victoria Square in Bolton. Charities looking for volunteers can have a stand at the fair for free. It takes place on Thursday 6th June between 11am and 3.30pm.  

Bolton Steps is always looking for new volunteers to join their team. There are positions available in administration, customer care, van driving, catering, teaching and IT support. Contact them for more details on 01204 397976.

Bolton Society for Blind People are looking for volunteers to help with organising events, coming up with creative ideas and assist at fundraising drives. Bag packs are one of the ways that helps to raise awareness and funds for BSBP. It’s also a fun way of connecting with the public. Ring Glen at BSBP on 01204 337896 to find out more.

All Lagan’s Foundation ask is you give up 2 hours of your time every week to help the charity. They are particularly looking for home visit volunteers to take care of a child when their primary carer needs some respite. Obviously, for this role you must be comfortable with children. Bolton Young Person’s Housing Scheme is currently looking for trustees to join their board later on this year. These are a chairperson, trustee and treasurer. For information on what the role entails, give BYPHS a ring on 01204 520183

Finally, Bolton Hospice always has a range of volunteering vacancies. Whether it’s serving in their shops, marketing the weekly lottery or becoming a van driver, there is something to suit all skills and abilities. Bolton Hospice’s telephone number is 01204 663066

Volunteering is a long term commitment and not something that should be entered into lightly. Even though it is volunteers week in the first week of June, demand for new volunteers for all the charities never falters, so they can continue the amazing work they do 365 days a year.
