This week is National Curry Week 2016, 10-16 October and we tried a new Bolton take away, well new to us anyway!

Have you actually tried the food at Spice Island yet? We were recommended by several people and from what they told us we just had to try it!

If you’re a fan of Asian cuisine, The Spice Island Bangladeshi Take Away on Tonge Moor Road in Bolton is one you just have to try. Established in Bolton now for over 20 years, The Spice Island recently underwent a major face lift and updating of the business and the results are spectacular.

With on-line ordering and payment facilities here, delivery to your home and order tracking with delivery or collection time being clearly displayed, you can’t ask for more than that, can you?

When I went to collect our meal, I was impressed to see more than 10 staff, all wearing clean uniforms busily working away behind the counter and a shop full customers awaiting their orders. This is a second generation, family run business claiming over 120 years combined experience in the business and appearance and hygiene are clearly important, as I saw first-hand.

Together with the quality and quantity of the food we ate, it’s clear to see why this business was WINNER OF BEST TAKE AWAY IN ENGLAND, ENGLISH CURRY AWARDS 2016.

We ordered for three people, which provided plenty of delicious food for a great meal with enough left over for a second meal the next day!

Our order was 2 mixed starters, followed by Lamb Tikka Biryani, Chicken Tikka Dansak and King Prawn Rogan Josh, with Garlic Naan, 2 Chapatti, 1 Mushroom Pilau Rice and 1 Pilau Rice, all accompanied by Papadoms with Mango Chutney, Red Onions and Yoghurt Mint Sauce, oh and they threw in a Chicken Chaat FOC!

As I said, the food was delicious, with plenty of meat in delightfully tasty sauces and the King Prawns were huge and plenty of them too! The mixed starter comprised Onion Bhaje’s, Chicken Tikka and Sheek Kebab, which together with the papadoms and sauces could have been a fantastic meal in itself.

It’s the first time we’ve been to The Spice Island, although I don’t know how we’ve managed to miss it for so long but I can tell you one thing for certain, it won’t be the last time. We’re looking forward to becoming regulars and it’s really right on our doorstep too!
