Free advice on keeping safe and preparing for the colder weather will be available at Bolton Council’s annual “get ready for winter” event.

The advice day will be held on Thursday, October 30, from 9.30am until 3.30pm in Victoria Square.

The free event has been organised by Bolton Council and its partners to raise awareness of winter weather and demonstrate some of the practical things people can do to prepare themselves to remain safe and self-sufficient throughout the winter months.

Bolton Council’s Cabinet Member for Highways and Engineering, Cllr David Chadwick, said: “October has been a mild month so far but the colder weather is not far off, and being prepared will make a huge difference to how people cope when it hits.

“This event is a fun and interactive day and it’s a real opportunity for people to find out how they can help themselves during winter, as well as finding out what we and our partners do to help keep residents safe.”

Help and information will be available about keeping warm and saving money on energy bills, maintaining vehicles, eating healthily on a budget during winter, and home and personal security.

The public can also test out their concentration skills with a driver simulation vehicle, meet search and rescue dogs, or take a look around a fire engine.

Participants include: the council, Greater Manchester Police, Greater Manchester Fire, North West Ambulance Service, the Environment Agency, utility companies and transport agencies, and voluntary organisations such as British Red Cross; Bolton Mountain Rescue Team, the Salvation Army.
