The annual Rock It! festival of music and family activities will be held at Queens Park in Bolton on Saturday 8 August from 12pm.

The festival, which is in its eighth year will include performances by twelve local young bands and acts, as well as children’s arts and crafts activities, magic shows and face painting.

The event is organised and run by young people, as part of their leadership training with Rock It, which is a youth-led community organisation representing teenagers from Greater Manchester aged between 11 and 18 with a passion for music and the arts.

The organisation specialises in the creation of original new music, developing young musicians and composers, and delivering Arts Awards accreditations through music industry training and a comprehensive volunteer programme open to young people aged up to 21.

The Rock It festival will also be the first event to utilise the newly restored natural amphitheatre, near to the Rose Garden in Queens Park. The amphitheatre had become overgrown in recent years, but has now been restored to its former glory as part of the council’s restoration of the park.

Councillor Nick Peel, Executive Cabinet Member for Environmental Services said: “We’re delighted that Rock It! will be taking place in Queens Park this year and that they will be the first festival to use our restored natural amphitheatre.

The young people of Bolton organise and deliver this whole event, as well as performing with their bands and individually.

We’d like to encourage people to come along to this event and support our young people.”
