It’s shaping up to be a busy few months for Bolton Society for Blind People, with lots of fundraising events and useful workshops planned until the end of the year.

Their biggest events will be to mark World Sight Day on Thursday 9th October.

The aim of World Sight Day is to raise awareness of blindness and visual impairment across the globe. In Bolton alone there are over 9,000 blind and partially sighted people and many of these rely on the services BSBP provide. Events Bolton Society for Blind People organise include a befriending service, computer classes, days out and many more invaluable sessions.

Sight loss can be caused by several medical conditions, but it is thought that approximately 75% of sight loss could have been stopped.

There are lots of ways you can get involved to raise money for BSBP, like holding a coffee morning, holding a non-uniform day and more.

On Friday 22nd August representatives from BSBP will be at the Health Fair at Bolton Market on 22nd August between 10am and 3pm where they’ll be offering advice and support to anyone who attends. Other health organisations will be present on the day too.

On Wednesday 27th August Dolphin will be visiting the BSBP Centre to demonstrate accessibility software. Anyone is welcome to come along to learn about the different computer programmes available for blind or partially sighted people, particularly those who have very little knowledge of computers.

On Saturday 30th August BSBP are looking for volunteers to join in their sponsored bag pack at the Burnden Park Asda. If you can join in for just a few hours to raise vital funds for BSBP then please get in touch with them. Then on Saturday 13th September there’s another bag pack, this time at Morrisons on Black Horse Street.

On Tuesday 9th September it’s BSBP’s second wine tasting event at the Victoria. You’ll be able to sample different varieties of exclusive wine from wine merchant Jean Juviniere. More details on that here.

Tom Jones is coming to BSBP on Friday 26th September, or at least his tribute act Ian Anthony is! Tickets are on sale now for this concert at Sottovento Italian Restaurant in Farnworth. A meal at the venue is included in the cost and it is sure to be a fabulous evening.

On Sunday 16th November the streets will be invaded by dozens of Santa’s, with the return of BSBP’s Santa Dash. More details on this will be announced soon.

For more information on any of these events or if you can spare a few hours a week to volunteer, call BSBP on 01204 337896.
