Young entrepreneurs and performers will be back in Bolton for the town’s second Teenage Market on Saturday September 10.

The first market, which was held earlier in the year was such a hit that the council has organised a second market to be held on Victoria Square between 10am and 4pm.

It aims to give young people an opportunity to showcase their business ideas as well as their musical and dramatic talents and stalls are free to those who take part.

Visitors to the market will be able to sample goods from over 20 traders including healthy smoothies, ice creams, coffee or macaroons, as well as buying dog treats, home accessories and clay miniatures handmade by budding entrepreneurs.

They will also be able to listen to music from aspiring young singers and local bands including Harriet Thornton, Sally’s Rocking Rebels, Lucas Kane, Olly Flavell, Mortion Bridge and Sara Crompton.

Young visitors to the market will also be able to try their hand at football, basketball or boxing, courtesy of the council’s Sport and Active Living Team.

The Teenage Market is a growing nationwide initiative set up by teenage brothers Joe and Tom Barratt in Stockport as a way to support local young people and transform town centres.

Leader of Bolton Council, Cllr Cliff Morris, said: "The inaugural Teenage Market was very popular so I am delighted that this second market has also been as popular, with over 20 young entrepreneurs signed up for stalls.

The market gives young people who might already be trading online a free platform to trade in the town centre and get a feel for what it is like to work in a market environment.

“We’d like to encourage residents and families to come down and check out what is on sale, enjoy the live music and maybe pick up a handmade gift or two.

Councillor Morris added: “Staff from our award winning Bolton Market will also be on hand to help and support them.”
