Bad breath (also known as Halitosis) is a hugely common problem and can be caused by a number of things

  • Poor Oral Hygiene
  • Tonsil Stones
  • Eating Habits
  • Drinking too much alcohol
  • Using Tobacco Products
  • Certain Medication
  • Bacterial or viral infections

 

Oral Hygiene is so important, daily brushing and flossing are two of the best ways to avoid bad breath.

Tonsil Stones is debris such as food particles, dead cells and mucus which have become lodged in cavities at the back of the throat. Tonsil stones can sometimes harden and form painful, white calcified lumps.

Did you know? Different types of food and drink can cause bad breath, these include onions, garlic, dairy, canned fish, alcohol and coffee. Not only that, these can be exacerbated by having poor oral hygiene or smoking.

There are also a number of medications which can affect bad breath, and these include Prozac, Claritin, Vasotec and Prilosec.

A great way to keep your oral hygiene in order is to use an antibacterial mouthwash and dental floss. Not only that, interdental toothbrushes are available at most Alphega pharmacies, these include the Sykes Chemist branches.
