Town Centre Solicitors Fieldings Porter are celebrating 140 years in business by merging with the firm next door Cumming Hodgkinson Dickinson.

The two long established law firms have always enjoyed a good working relationship, since Fieldings Porter Partner Gordon Cumming, father of Robert, a current partner in Cumming Hodgkinson Dickinson (CHD), left Fieldings Porter to start up his own business in the building next door.

The merger will result in a strong partnership offering a range of specialisms including Employment, Family, Probate, Wills, Commercial, Property and Financial Services as well as Criminal Law.

For existing clients of either firm, their will be little change as the firm is demonstrating confidence in Bolton Town Centre by maintaining both buildings on Silverwell Street, absorbing the daily operation into the existing Fieldings Porter building while refurbishing the old CHD building to create meeting and conference rooms.

The practice founded by Former Bolton Mayor Matthew Fielding in 1871 will now have 12 partners and 3 CHD Consultants and from an entire staff of 80, 35 are solicitors.

As part of a number of events taking place to mark the 140th anniversary, two members of staff are leaving their desks to complete a 140 mile walk from Gretna Green back to the Fieldings Porter offices in Silverwell Street.

Partners Craig Morris and Clive Monaghan will set off on Monday 12 September and hope to be back in Bolton by Sunday 23rd, raising money for several local charities in doing so. The charities to benefit will include Bolton Hospice, Bolton Crossroads, Bleakholt Animal Sanctuary, Birtenshaw School and St Lukes Church Drop In Centre.

To support the walkers and their charities, cheques made payable to 'Fieldings Porter Charity Walk' can be sent to Fieldings Porter, Silverwell House, Silverwell Stree, Bolton, BL1 1PT.
