Is there a nicer smell than that of a homemade cake cooking in the oven? Maybe, maybe not. Regardless it is a lovely smell. And with National Baking Week approaching, start cooking up your own yummy recipes and treat your nearest and dearest.

National Baking Week runs between 14th and 20th October and this year will be their 6th birthday. This year they are changing things about and ask people not to bake boring, supermarket products, but instead to try and produce something a bit more inventive. With so many different recipes out there, try and bake something new and different for whoever you’re cooking for.

The Great British Bake off is immensely popular, as amateur bakers battle it out to win first place in the competition on BBC Two. The winner of Bake Off last year, John Whaite, has produced some recipes for you to replicate on the Baking Week website.

Cake Delight run regular drop in sessions where you can come along and try and make some cupcakes for yourself. They also bake mouth-watering cakes for all occasions from their shop in Bolton. If you’ve not tried them yet, you’re missing out.

Dig out those mixings bowls, wash those wooden spoons and get baking. You won’t regret it.
