It’s a golden time for Campcraft, Bolton as they celebrate their 50th year of trading on April 21st 2014.

To celebrate the occasion, Campcraft are running a series of special events instore and online.

The shop front is undergoing a complete facelift and there will be a new motto for the company, “step into the great outdoors.” The shop has been painted charcoal and white and an exciting new logo for the company has been designed, incorporating the different sports Campcraft provide for.

There will be competitions and giveaways on Campcraft’s Facebook page and their suppliers will be running special workshops for customers, details of which will be posted on facebook.

Owner Alistair is holding a ‘sock amnesty’ where customers can partexchange their old hiking socks and receive £5 off a new pair. The old pair will be washed and donated to local charitys providing they are still in decent condition.

Alistairs father Michael Biggs helped launch Campcraft in 1964 with a group of local businessmen.  It originally only sold Scouting and Guiding uniform but quickly diversified. Michael became manager and bought the business outright in 1968 and since then the store has gone from strength to strength.

Alistair took over the day to day running of the business after Michael retired 12 years ago. Michael remains involved in the business, helping with the accounts and serving customers and remains a codirector to this day along with Alistair.

Alistair believes they have survived half a century in business because they always go the extra mile to help customers. The whole team are active outdoor enthusiasts ( Alistair having slept 30 nights under the stars last year) and their passion for the great outdoors is evident in their exceptional customer service.

Their philosophy is to only sell products they would happily sell to a friend and over the years many customers have become just that.

One of Campcraft’s specialities is boot fitting, having the skill and knowledge to reshape and modify boots instore and offering a bespoke measuring and fitting service . Alistair says this is something online stores and larger shops cannot compete with and says “Other outlets don’t have the time or expertise for boot fitting. Many people have never had their boots fitted before coming to us, yet it’s so important to have the right shoes for walking and exercise if you’re going to enjoy it.”

Alistair and the team at Campcraft are now looking forward to the next 50 years!
