Bolton Welcomes Its New Mayor Cllr Guy Harkin
22nd May 2012

Sunday May 20th was Civic Sunday and Boltons new Mayor Councillor Guy Harkin headed up the event.

The new Mayor was appointed last week and he enjoyed his first public appearance as hundreds of local people turned out to see the parade.

There was a full line-up in the parade from the police, musicians from the Lancashire Artillery and Soldiers from the 216 Battery Royal Artillery to scout and guide groups.

This ceremony gives the people of the town a real sense of civic pride and represents the start of a fabulous year in Bolton with the Olympic Torch Relay coming to town as well as events such as the Food and Drink Festival.

We would like to extend a huge welcome to our new Mayor from thebestof bolton and know that he has a busy year ahead of him travelling across the borough in his civic and ceremonial duties.

The Mayors chosen charities for his year in office are Bolton Lads and Girls Club, Bolton Hospice and The Alzheimers Society. The lovely Cllr Noel Spencer who was last year’s Mayor now is the Deputy Mayor of Bolton.
