Bolton Museum In Top 3 Attractions In Greater Manchester

Bolton Museum is ranked third most popular free attraction in Greater Manchester according to the latest figures from Visit England, with over 320,000 visitors taking the opportunity last year to sample it's treasures.

Only Manchester Art Gallery and Manchester Museum had more visitors in the same period and across the North West Bolton Museum is ranked seventh most popular free attraction.

This is another feather in Bolton's cap, raising the towns profile even further after the Shree Swaminarayan Mandir Arts and Culture Centre claimed the top spot earlier this week as 'Top Tourist Attraction'  by Visit England.

Among the popular attractions at the Museum is one of the countries best Egyptology collections, many items from which are part of a touring exhibition in Taiwan.

Currently attracting a large number of interested people is the Fakes and Forgeries exhibition which showcases the work of Bromley Cross forger Shaun Greenhalgh.

Greenhalgh made many convincing forgeries which fooled experts around the world, including The Amarna Princess, a fake Egyptian statue which Bolton Museum had paid £440,000 for after both The British Museum and Christies had verified it's authenticity!

Currently on display at the museum is a celebration of Nat Lofthouse, featuring lots of memorabilia from Nat's long career with Bolton Wanderers, spanning over 40 years. Caps, shirts, medals and photographs will remain on display at the museum until October 29th, so don't miss this great opportunity to soak up the nostalgia if you are a Wanderers fan.
