Bolton Lions Need More Members For Their Busy Fundraising Activities

I know Christmas seems a long time off but I am hearing the rumbles of it being talked about and seeing little glimpses of Christmas goodies appearing in the supermarkets.

This means only one thing, Bolton Lions are launching their Christmas Appeal. This appeal at this stage though isnt for goods, it is for members.

Bolton Lions has only 23 members just one of those is a woman and membership chairman and new president John Crompton wants to increase numbers of members as one of his aims during his term of office.

Members need to be 16 years and over and they have Lions right into their 60's and 70's.

The lions work amazingly hard to fundraise with collections at supermarkets, sponsored walks, raffles and casino nights to name but a few and each event requires a certain number of volunteers to ensure the event runs smoothly and is a success. For example running a casino event takes 12 volunteers so almost 50% of the overall members are required and this can often be a struggle.

The Lions major campain is 'The Caring Christmas Appeal' which is run in conjunction with The Bolton News and helps thousands of disadvantaged youngsters across the borough. Last year the appeal gave 900 local children gifts donated by The Bolton News readers.

All the money raised by the Lions goes to individuals and groups in Bolton as well as some donations made to projects in Africa. Bolton Lions also get involved in many local community events such as running the radio station at the Royal Bolton Hospital.
