A Bolton College mature student, and mother-of-three, has proven that she’s top of the class with outstanding grades, a full award cabinet and employment within her chosen speciality.

After studying Civil Engineering for three years at Bolton College, Hilary Hargreaves, 45, from Barrowford has been awarded a Corporate Learning and Development award – run by her current employer, Lancashire County Council.

Hilary’s achievements were also rewarded at the Institution of Civil Engineers North West Technical QUEST awards in 2011. These awards recognise academic ability, ambition, initiative, commitment and the potential to excel in the industry.

Hilary said: "I feel absolutely elated to have won the awards. I spent many hours studying for my qualification; however, I enjoyed it and I'm pleased with the progress I've made.

“My family has been very supportive, and I'd like to thank my colleagues and managers who've helped me build a career within this exciting and rewarding field.”

Lawrence Atherton, HNC course tutor at Bolton College, said: “Hilary achieved excellent grades in her National Certificate and in the first year of her HNC Civil Engineering course.

“She is an outstanding student in terms of her contribution and positivity in the classroom. She is fully deserving of these awards.”
