Every pupil in Bolton is to receive a commemorative medallion to celebrate the Olympic Torch and the Diamond Jubilee.

More than 55,000 of the coins are now being distributed in schools across the town.

Council chiefs secured £20,000 sponsorship for the coins thanks tO NCP Car Parks, Essa Academy and Public Sector PLC for the coins that will go out to primary and secondary school children.

Thousands of people of all age turned out to welcome the torch into the town on May 31st and hundreds more waved it back on its journey on friday morning and its great to see the local council wanting to make sure this fantastic occasion is firmly embedded in the history and lives of our children.

It is hoped that children will treasure the medallions for years to come and remember the occasions that went with it.
