This was one of the most pleasant hotel stays we've experienced. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff. From the minute we arrived to the minute we left they looked after us. Kris on reception allowed us into our room well before check-in time and gave us extra time after the offical check-out too. So many good things about the place & people and the Easter egg hanging on our bedroom door made it all extra special!

A brief but thoroughly enjoyable visit to Guernsey with an overnight stay at the OGH.
Absolutely excellent service with the one small issue resolved with aplomb and consideration by Kris at Reception.
The restaurant and bar staff were extremely hospitable and friendly, and lunch and breakfast service and food quality were first class.
A room upgrade was appreciated but the room we were given at the back of the hotel was affected by the noise generated by the kitchen extractor fan. My complaint met with a sympathetic response and a speedy change of room to a particularly nice room which was very well received by us.
Over the years I have stayed many times at the OGH but this was the first return in recent years. The hotel has long been a favourite and there is little doubt that the service ethos has evolved even further since my last visit.
Well done OGH and especially the front of house and restaurant staff who did so much to make this short visit so enjoyable.

Went here for a Champagne afternoon tea we'd been given as a present. Service was good initially and the cakes etc excellent but unfortunately by the time we were ready to leave all staff had vanished and we had to go to reception to find someone to 'box up' our remaining cakes. At this point a member of staff was found. She handed us boxes then abruptly left. It was a disappointing end to what should have been a joyous occasion and, because of that, I'd find it difficult to recommend the OGH to others.

Dear Andrew,

It was good to meet you briefly at the hotel just before we left on Monday.
This was my first visit to Guernsey and Pauline had been previously but many years ago.
We had a great time there and the weather was kind too.
The visit was particularly enhanced and made extremely joyful by staying with you at the OGH.
Our room was great, and the food was outstanding but most of all the staff were of the very best you can find- at all times.
From Roberto’s greeting on arrival to your bid farewell you were all fantastic. Each staff member is a credit to themselves personally and indeed to your group.
Furthermore, with this exemplary behavior it is so good for all the guests to see the old-fashioned ways of courtesy, manners, thoughtfulness, and kindness with a smile.
It was an added bonus to for me to find so many Zimbabweans working with you. It was great to chat with them and know that they have done so well in their lives.
This is no surprise for me being Zimbabwean myself and missing this beautiful land but in complete turmoil these days. Corruption, sadly is so bad in Zimbabwe it is completely out of control but one day we all hope and pray it will be better for our friends and families still living there. I support a charity here which does its best to supply food and medicine to those who have nothing in Zimbabwe. It is called ZANE (Zimbabwe a National Emergency)
My Mum (a single Mum with 3 children) worked at the World Famous (In those days) Victoria Falls Hotel from 1952 to 1958. It is still a good hotel but would be great again in your group with your staff!

With kind regards to you and all your staff who made us feel at home!
Thank you.

A four day break with another couple, our original trawl of hotels became a shortlist of three and chatting with Channel Islands Direct suggested this Hotel was an excellent choice.
She was not wrong, It's a beautiful old building and seemingly extended into adjacent buildings meaning there are minor level changes but all fully accessible with lifts or slopes. Nicely decorated and in most areas with sound deadening wall coverings and carperts which makes it a comfortable environment without the booming echoes which has become prevalent recently.
There are plenty of staff and without exception smiling and happy to assist with anything, Bed and pillows very comfortalble even for my long term back problem.
Very good food, we only had one evening meal and an afternoon tea in addition to the breakfast; which is freshly cooked to order along with a good selection of buffet.

The only negative comment I can muster; there is temporarily scaffolding in the area of the room we had, but quite honestly I think it would be unfair to criticise them for maintining the hotel which is open and popular all year.

The quality of service is truly incredible, a special thank you to Kris who speaks impeccable French and who was a great help on several topics. The breakfast is one of the best we ate and the bedding is perfect. I recommend it!

We visit Guernsey regularly and have stayed at The OGH on a number of occasions. This time we went to celebrate my wife's birthday (with mine a couple of days later). The service from Kris, Roberto and the entire team was amazing with nothing being too much trouble. We were welcomed back from the moment we walked into reception on the first day and made to feel very much at home, and it was lovely to be recognised by many of the staff who have been there for a number of years now.
We simple can't find fault with the experience or the facilities and are already looking forward to returning in July for another celebration!

An excellent hotel. The room was clean and tidy. The rest of the hotel was also clean and tidy. We were upgraded to a higher grade room, which was fantastic! The service from all the staff was exceptional. They really live up to their five star rating. The restaurant, bar, front of house and Spa staff were just spot on for giving five star service. I was celebrating my birthday with my husband, and they really made it special. It was very touching .Thank you OGH staff. Keep up the fantastic work!

Originally we weren’t supposed to be in this establishment, but we ended up there due to an unforeseen event in the hotel booked initially...
The welcome was just great, where we felt good. Unaccustomed to the standing of a 5 star hotel, the hotel team showed great sympathy and warm empathy, benevolent and smiling.
Special thanks to Kris and Pamela, who were able to pamper us with perfect French and consider us privileged hosts. Really very friendly, and with little care...
Of all the high standing establishments we have had the opportunity to frequent in Europe (mainly 4 stars and rare 5 stars such as the waldorf astoria of Versailles ) the OGH team is to be ranked in first place!
The hotel itself is of a very British class, of great charm and the restaurant is superb .. Very stylish decoration without being ostentatious.
The bedding is of excellent quality.
Here, what more to say ... magnificent and unforgettable stay largely due to this exceptional team.

What a superb end-to-end 5 day experience at OGH Hotel, St. Peter Port.
Amazing staff, everyone of them and plenty too, to look after us.
Great Queen room, great breakfast and dinner choices.
Afternoon tea was first class and more than plentiful.

We were treated like royalty and made to feel very special, not overly fussed over but just right; a friendly, knowledgable and very professional team.
Decor is sort of old colonial style and just fitting for this wonderful place, steeped in history.

It's not cheap, but we found it amazing and great quality.
You get what you pay for.

The hotel is only 5 minutes walk from the harbour area and 15 minutes transfer from the airport - we used Island Coachways who were great, polite and prompt.

Buy a 'Puffin' bus card (£4 for the card) and top it up with rides at £1.15 each to go anywhere for that price, though if you want to go all round the island, break the journey along the way, get a coffee or lunch, then get back on otherwise you'll incur a £10 all-round non-stop cost.

Lots of lovely coastal walks easy to get to and from, on the excellent bus services.
We did the walk from Rousse Tower to Pembroke Bay - an easy walk, circa 4km, with bus stops at start and finish.
The Beach House cafe at Pembroke Bay did really nice soups.

The Tourist Information centre staff in St. Peter Port were really helpful.

Don't miss the Occupation Museum - a mere 10 minutes walk from the airport with regular bus services, just a 15-20 minute ride away.

We also really enjoyed Pier 17 (had lovely Brill and mixed fish ) and La Perla (had lovely bream and scallops) restaurants.

Our experience at The Old Government House Hotel was absolutely amazing. The hotel was really lovely and the staff were ‘second to none!’ Nothing was too much trouble and they were so friendly and helpful - would have to give a special ‘shout out’ to Pamela in the restaurant and Roberto ‘front of house’ . We had an afternoon tea and I am a coeliac - would have to say, the best gluten free afternoon tea I have ever had! 😁

Hooray - The sweetie jars have returned🤣 Thank you for bringing this lovely little luxury back after pandemic.

Normally stay in their sister hotel (Duke of Richmond) but second visit to The old Government House hotel. Both hotels are amazing with staff that can’t do enough for you. Rooms kept beautifully clean with added luxury of evening turn down service
Ideally situated to St Peter’s Port which is only short walk and all other attractions around the island.

Can’t recommend enough. Lovely hotel with lovely staff. Looking forward to our return visit already.

Excellent service. Nothing was too much trouble by the staff . Chris at the reception particularly was very welcoming , talked us through everything to do with our stay and just looked after our every need.
The room was well appointed and with stylish decor.
Fabulous breakfasts looking out over the sea.

Our thanks to all the wonderful staff who made our wedding anniversary so special. Very warm welcome from Kris and the outstanding service just continued - In our 20 + years of retirement and travelling extensively, this was the best hotel experience ever. The breakfast, afternoon tea and evening meals were amazing, bed so comfortable and all the extras were a real bonus.

We had an exceptionally perfect stay at this beautiful hotel. The staff greated us like old friends by Chris. We were given sparkling wine on arrival (thank you Stewart) and upgraded to an opulent room facing the sea (room 138).
Stewart gave us loads of tips for Guernsey as it was our first visit.
Breakfast was served in a grand room with a lovely view also. My eggs Florentine may have been the best I've ever had. I can recommend the kedgeree too.
We booked a massage and afternoon tea for my birthday too. Everything was exceptional and we were delighted with some complimentary champagne as we were celebrating my birthday!!!
Each evening as they performed their turndown service, they left us a tasty treat e.g brownies and flapjacks.
We bumped into Chris in town off duty and he was just as friendly and welcoming to us.
If you stay at this hotel you won't be disappointed. It's absolutely beautiful. Like going back in time. Yet it has all the modern amenities. It's very central to the quaint town, bars and restaurants.
I'm sorry not to have remembered other staff names in the breakfast room and lounge but everyone was great. Whatever this hotel is doing to keep it's staff this happy. Please keep doing it
Thank you, thank you, thank you for an incredible experience and stay. We hope to see you all again soon!

Myself and my sister visited the SPA as not long ago she celebrated her Birthday and I have not been feeling well. We decided to treat ourselves with Full Body Hot Stone Massage.
We had a wonderful experience that started from the moment we made the booking. We were greeted and looked after by the gentleman at reception ( apologies I didn’t get your name). Service was very efficient and professional. Very friendly and helpful with an eye for detail.
And big thank you to both ladies ( massage therapists). You left us feeling renewed.
Thank you for all you effort and we definitely will be visiting the SPA again very soon.

This hotel is possibly one of try e best hotels we have ever stayed in. From start to finish the staff go the extra mile to ensure the perfect stay. The reception we received was exemplary. The rooms are top notch. The food is fantastic especially the afternoon tea and the curry room.

Our 4 day break at the OGH was perfect - the staff were welcoming, friendly and helpful. Breakfast each morning was the highlight, so many choices and beautifully presented. We had dinner in the restaurant one evening and the meal was superb and unhurried; my son was presented with a special dessert as they found out it was his birthday - a lovely touch and much appreciated. We also had afternoon tea which was delicious. The gym and spa facilities are very good, my son used the gym a couple of times and we used the jacuzzi, steam room and sauna and were lucky enough to have it to ourselves. The rooms are very comfortable with complimentary water every day and a choice of pillows to suit everyone.
We had a lovely family break and would definitely recommend this hotel for anyone looking for something a bit special.

Our stay at the ogh was excellent! Our room was great with fantastic views over the harbour.
We found a bottle of bubbly and a cake in the room to mark our celebration! The food was wonderful, endless choices at breakfast! The atmosphere in the hotel was calm and peaceful. Special thanks to all the staff who were very friendly and pleasant. A big shout out to kris who went out of his way to make our stay especially enjoyable.

This is a fine hotel in the classical sense. The decor is traditional and comfortable with a layout that has evolved not planned. We only ate dinner in the restaurant once during our stay, the food was beautifully prepared and presented. The cold duck parfait starter was disappointing but the main courses excellent. Sadly the restaurant was empty so lacked atmosphere but it was February and we were staying on a special offer deal. The bedroom was a queen room cozily furnished with a super king bed and walk-in rain shower in the en-suite that was easy to operate and worked perfectly. No sea view, but we did not expect one at the price paid. The breakfasts are very good with a buffet and menu choice, the coffee is ‘hotel coffee’. All the staff in reception, bar, restaurant and chamber are lovely and professional in what they do. Definitely stay again when we can get back to this super island.

First time in Guernsey. Like time travelling to a world where there was no litter no graffiti no potholes no grumpy people, and hotels like the OGH existed.

What a beautiful hotel. The interior suitably old-fashioned, but stylish and lovingly maintained. Cosy lounge, with a fire.
Our room was comfortable, huge bed. A thoughtful touch is that the television sound cannot be turned up too high, so no noise from next door.
Some rooms have a bath.
Room 220 is particularly good if you want to be away from occasional street noise, and has a view of the harbour, but no bath.

The staff... what can one say. What a nice bunch of friendly, highly professional people, not least the GM who is very visible and doesn't need a GM badge to keep things ticking along.

The breakfast buffet is both decorative and dangerous. Take an elastic belt! Dinner, we ate in every evening and were never disappointed, both in the bistro and the curry room where this curry newbie enjoyed a mild but very tasty meal.
Unlike some restaurants where the emphasis is on presentation, here one has both the presentation and the quantity. Take an elastic belt! Oh, I already said that.

It was our 50th wedding anniversary. We were made to feel quite special, culminating in a surprise celebration cake one evening.

All in all, hard to imagine a better holiday or a better place to stay.

The staff went the extra mile with a glass of fizz on check-in. Then we were upgraded to a sea view room and when we had an additional request nothing was too much trouble. Lovely cocktails in the bar and the breakfast was fab too. Friendly service by ever member of their team.
