We stayed three nights at this hotel during our holiday to Guernsey last week. Almost impossible to fault. The service by all staff was second to none, we were treated like Royalty! The breakfast was absolutely superb, with so much choice and the standard of the food was first class. The location of the hotel is excellent, just a few minutes walk to the main part of St. Peter Port. The only slight disappointment was the bedroom, which I felt could do with a bit of refreshment as it looked a bit tired. Also, the shower head really didn’t want to stay in place. Minor irritations really. Overall we loved our stay here and would highly recommend it.

Our stay at OGH was superb.

It began at check-in, with a glass of prosecco. The reception team was brilliant, both at check-in and checkout. A quick tour by a member of the concierge team was innovative and welcome, as we were shown all the necessary areas of the hotel.

Our room was immaculate and very well laid out. The bed, in particular, was amazing: huge and extremely comfortable. We had been given a choice of pillows and we had the requested mini fridge. We also quickly enjoyed the complimentary cakes and the filter coffee - much better than pods. The hotel was lovely and quiet at night, too.

Day 2 was our wedding anniversary and the hotel really made it special. We had free cake in the afternoon and a card from the staff. We'd booked the Brasserie for dinner and they not only reserved the table with the best view but also gave us a complimentary drink. The meal was exceptional.

Breakfast each day was delicious. There was a wide range of hot and cold food available, beautifully presented and well cooked.

We booked two experiences: the cocktail masterclass and the gin tasting. Both were hugely enjoyable and expertly run.

But I must compliment all the staff we met. They took service to the highest possible level and it never felt forced or insincere. Nothing was too much trouble and when my husband felt unwell, reception even offered to go to the chemist for us.

To sum up, we had a truly luxurious experience at OGH. I have no 'could do better' criticisms. It was expensive but definitely value for money. I would happily stay there again and, on the basis of our experience, try other Red Carnation Hotels.

Location perfect for St Peter's Port. Staff amazing great service. Very clean everywhere . The room's this is where it starts to change a little. Rooms are small and tired need upgrading. The bathroom was very average. Shower and bath very poor need upgrading. Bath chipped and narrow. How head kept falling off.

Before I share our experience, I must stress we do prefer modern hotels, and expect five star service to be less is more and respect guests privacy. Whilst I fully appreciate Guernsey and its heritage, this hotel is very old fashioned, and is need of some serious TLC in the particular bedroom we stayed in, room 122 and the corridors to get to the rooms- Holes in the ceilings; and generally grubby. In our room, the shower had been repaired on numerous occasions, and just looked poor. There was mould under the air con unit where it was condensing onto the wall. The tea/coffee and biscuit selection was not premium, and the hairdryer was full of dust. We arrived at 9PM on the first evening, and the concierge came to show us the roomC and then stood on the balcony for too long making awkward and unnecessary conversation. I genuinely didn’t think he was going to leave at one point! The breakfast service was chaotic, and unorganised, we had to wait 20 minutes for a table as it was ‘peak time’ and whilst this was OK, if you know the peak time is between 9-10 at weekends; why not prepare for it? This was not the service I would expect nor being presented to a table with butter all over the jam selection plate and soaking wet table from being wiped over in a hurry. We ate at Lola on our second day for breakfast in town, which was fab. It sounds harsh, but we generally referred to the place as ‘Faulty Towers’ and checked out a day early to head back to London. I couldn’t bare the foisty, old smell in our room anymore! The ‘view’ from the room was tarnished by the flat roof covered in bird poo and debris. I didn’t find the service or staff helpful, we wanted to order taxis on numerous occasions and every time we were greeted by ‘you will be lucky to get one’ and just a pretty ignorant and an attitude to it. It wasn’t for us, and I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone. The outdoor swimming pool was tired, unkept, needed a good clean, and the umbrellas needed binning as were full of rust. I don’t think they are appealing to anyone under the age of 60, maybe 70, and have factored this into the experience they wish to give. One positive - the location, and again, maybe they rely on this too much? We paid a substantial amount of money for this trip, and have no issue with paying the premium where it is worth it, this certainly is not. Sorry to say but it should not be awarded as five star!

Just came back from our third stay at this wonderful hotel. From the moment we arrived my husband and I felt like we were being treated like cut glass. The service is second to none. The welcoming glass of prosecco is much appreciated. Our room is extremely comfortable and the air conditioning is great to have after a hard day sunbathing by the pool! The marble bathroom with waterfall shower is lovely. The turndown service is a nice touch - but we noticed that there are no chocolates this year. The heated pool is fabulous (except there were quite a few more children this year - ours are grown up, so we’ve been there, done that) but the little touches like the free ice creams and the abundance of towels made up for it a bit. The only gripe about the pool area is the shower/toilet - the toilet was leaking quite badly, so we avoided those. That definitely needs some maintenance. The restaurant -The Brasserie is worth a visit - especially the lamb rump is exquisite. The breakfasts are to die for. We always go to the Curry rooms. It used to offer a wine flight and that experience was amazing, but they’ve stopped that now. . The cocktail menu in The Crown Club is extensive and they were scrummy! All the staff are so fantastic and can’t do enough. We are already planning our next holiday to this wonderful hotel next year. Thank you to all the staff for making our holiday so memorable again.

A wonderful stay in a beautiful property made extra special by the staff. We had such a fabulous time at the OGH, from the welcome, thank you Ranganai, to the food, knowledgable staff, excellent tour of the wine cellar and insights into mixology from Jeffrey and Dave and just an amazing place, full of surprises, gorgeous art work and antiques. We have stayed in hotels all over the world and I can absolutely say the OGH is my favourite. I can't possibly name all of the staff who made our stay so fabulous but to name a few others, Mimi, Ryan, Alessandro the servers in the Curry room and most certainly all the back-room people, the rooms and public areas were immaculate retaining the air of tradition and country house grandeur, the food from breakfast through snacks and amazing dinners were out of this world. Thank you all so much, we will be back so that we can explore more of this fabulous island from a perfect base.

Well it’s not often I say it , especially if you have read any of my other reviews ,
This hotel is spot on , just returned from a 4 day stay , The food , the staff , the cleanliness of the hotel 1st class , the management run a very well organised machine , never had to wait for service anywhere , the staff were very polite and helpful, a special mention to Paul behind the bar , such a happy pleasant guy even when very busy .
A few points to make , it’s up a fairly steep hill from the port , don’t be fooled by a short 3 mile taxi ride it will set you back £20-25 from the airport.
Around the pool is lovely but quite small so abit of sunbed hogging goes on which is a shame .
Fantastic restaurants all over the Port , even use the hotel the evening meal was lovely too .

Our 1st visit to Guernsey was for our golden wedding anniversary. The OGH hotel made it superb with their excellent personal service, facilities and restaurants.
It is an old building so the 60 rooms are all very individual.
The Brassery Restaurant was very good - eat in the conservatory or out in the garden for breakfast or lunch. Evening tends to be inside with open windows. Good choices of food, all very good, superb service.
Lovely bar which does make good cocktails and friendly service inside or out. There is also a bar menu but we did not try that.
The Governor's Room Curry House was fine dining curry with a south african twist. Superb food, wine and service.
The concierge service is very helpful and managed to book us into the Victor Hugo tour (ensure you get an english tour and book well in advance) and the TukTuk tour which were all really good. We also took a ferry trip over to Herme.
The small swimming pool is set in lovely private gardens with sunbeds, towels and free flavoured water. Wonderful pool side service.
A few minutes walk to Candie gardens which are worth a visit. 10 minutes walk down the hill into St Peter Port sea front or shopping streets.
All in all, a superb hotel and visit. We will return.

Another fantastic stay at the OGH at the beginning of July. Couldn’t wait to return for our fifth stay and nothing disappointed us. Welcomed like old friends with a glass of our favourite wine, set the scene for another fabulous holiday. Room overlooking the pool towards the sea front. Breakfasts are the best we ever have in a hotel and we were lucky enough to able to eat outside every day. Andrew we have to say again you have a great team, nothing is too much trouble and we are very grateful to you all. Have to give a special mention to Alessandro, Alice and Siya in the restaurant, Dave in the bar and of course Roberto, Kris and Josh. And you too Andrew, I wish more managers went the extra mile like you. Will be returning in October with our friends.! Thank you again.
Julie.

Couldn’t fault the staff but the rooms are lacking something and feel a little tired. We stayed in a classic double but then moved to another. We moved because I struggled with the shower in the first room having mobility issues. The second room was bigger but seemed tired and the seating was inadequate, the air conditioning didn’t work to start with but was fixed after a couple of days. The bathroom basin was cracked and the shower head didn’t stay where it was put. I looked at the classic doubles on the web site and they didn’t reflect what we had. The website shows very big spacious rooms and if we hadn’t been moved I would have checked out and sought alternative accommodation.

A delightful hotel with the best service that we have ever had!
Location is very central in St Peter’s Port and a 5 minute walk to the port. Offloading our car outside the hotel was easy and the hotel concierge then moved our car into the awkward hotel car park.
Warm welcome at reception alongside a very welcome glass of Prosecco and a quick guided tour of the hotel facilities.
Room itself was lovely, clean and well kept with good air conditioning. Large bed which was exceptionally comfortable. Room was also well attended each day we were there (3 nights). There was a shower over the bath which was not ideal and clothes storage was limited. Room and en-suite probably needs a bit of updating.
First night we dined in the Curry Room. Again service exceptional. Curries were delicious.
Breakfasts were served in the Brasserie restaurant and on the adjoining patio. Wide selection of food available from the buffet including fresh fruit, cereals, pastries and juices. Hot food was ordered at the table and included a good selection of options. The welcome and service by the staff at breakfast was delightful.
One afternoon we opted for the Date Night offer. This included 90 minute massages for us both and a choice from the set menu from the Brasserie. The massages were excellent and the food from the Brasserie was again delicious. Again accompanied by exceptional service.
Public areas in the hotel were very comfortable and included a bar area adjacent to the Brasserie restaurant. There was also an outside pool with a handful of sunbeds. Service from the bar was excellent.
Finally, for our final morning we had to leave early (before breakfast). The hotel provided a delightful takeaway breakfast which we enjoyed when our ferry got to Jersey.

Although I didn’t stay at the hotel I booked a 90 minute aromatherapy massage in the spa. Susan was my masseuse who I cannot praise highly enough. When I go away I always treat myself to a massage but this one completely topped all the rest. The ambience is calming and oozing luxury but I must credit Susan’s amazing ability foremost. Please request this lady - she is phenomenal. So much so that I’ve booked another one before I return home on Friday!

My husband and I stayed at The OGH from in July. We had one of our most favourite holidays ever. We had reserved a king size bedroom with a balcony and the room was light and spacious. The views of the islands was incredible.

The hotel is beautiful and the facilities excellent. The food was out of this world and the fish dishes in particular were an absolute favourite of ours. The attentiveness of the staff is exceptional and nothing is ever too much trouble. The staff actually treated us like family and remembered us from the previous year. It would be wrong to mention just one member of staff so I have mentioned several in this email. Firstly, Kris, is a great manager. He clearly has high expectations of his staff and his manner and friendliness very much sells your hotel. He was supported by Roberto with his wide smile and his happy disposition which made us feel so welcomed every day. In the restaurant, we were looked after by Pamela, Tendayi and Alessandro who advised on dishes brilliantly, served us with friendliness and a sincere smile. They made every dinner experience a pleasure. We had only booked to eat an evening meal once at your brasserie; however, after a delicious fish supper, we cancelled the other restaurants we had booked on the island to visit and chose to eat at your restaurant each night.

Stewart helped around the hotel, taking our bags and taking us to our room. He was so helpful and so friendly and his chattiness was welcomed each day. And lastly, but definitely not least, Sujith, attended to our room each day always leaving us with a beautiful creature made out of towels. The room always looked fantastic when we came back in after a long day and we were curious as to what lovely swan or elephant maybe sitting on our bed.

This is a fantastic hotel and definitely has become one of the highlights of our year. We’re looking forward to next year already.

What an amazing hotel. We had a Seaview King room with a balcony. Only one tiny niggle was the flat roof that took up half of the view but the size of the room compensated for that.
The staff are fully focused on customer service and cannot be faulted. A very special mention for Jeffrey in the crown club bar. He made out stay ! And we had the pleasure of meeting his family. He really does give 5 star service. Also a mention for the staff that man the pool area. Once by the pool you do not have to move an inch as everything is bought to you including complimentary drinks, ice cream and fresh fruit.
The food in the dinning room was as expected but I would avoid the lamb rump as I found it very tough and full of gristle.
That said they where very sorry and did not charge.
Roberto was very welcoming and made us feel at home straight away.
Overall it was nice to go somewhere where customers are treated with good old fashioned service that is so lacking these days.

First time visit to Guernsey and we stayed at the OGH to celebrate my 60th birthday ( hubby was also 60 but at the beginning of June ) We stayed for 10 nights. we were welcomed with a glass of bubbles and shown around the hotel after booking in, our cases were sent up to our room ready for when we went up, the air con was lovely as very hot when we got there.
The staff were all very helpful and a big shout out to “T” and Pamela, also thank you to the chef as Pamela asked him to speak to us about getting some spider crab, edible crab and whole fish as not on the menu which he did and it was lovely ( hopefully I can send some pics ).
My birthday breakfast was brilliant, bunch of flowers on the table, some Buck’s Fizz and a bottle of champagne ( flowers ordered by hubby )
And lots of birthday wishes from all the staff.
The food was excellent in the hotel and lots of tables in the gardens to sit in the shade or the sun with a cold glass of wine or a cocktail.
Thank you Sianna for keeping us fed and watered while we lazed by the pool and made sure everyone had enough towels, also a cold glass of wine by the pool is a must.

From the moment we arrived at the OGH we felt welcomed and truly relaxed.

Our room, 111, was excellent, comfortable and spacious with perfect air conditioning which was so necessary as we were staying during the recent heatwave when Guernsey enjoyed its hottest day ever.

All the OGH staff we encountered during our stay, whether in the restaurants, around the pool or just around the hotel in general were super friendly and accommodating.

We reserved a gin tasting experience and this turned out to be a throughly enjoyable and enlightening experience.
the bar tender who conducted the tasting, was knowledgeable and interesting to talk with, we definitely learned a few things to try out at home, we even bought one of the local gins included in the tasting from duty free at the airport.

We will recommend the OGH to anyone we know thinking of taking a holiday in St Peter Port and we hope to return ourselves at some point.
