A bit of this "legacy hotel" feeling. Very basic rooms for the price. Great location.

We stayed for five nights in a Sea View Superking Room with a balcony for five nights. The OGH is a beautiful period hotel with generous sized rooms( ours had a separate walk-in wardrobe and also a separate walk-in shower in the bathroom. The retractable glass window on the balcony was also a real bonus. They have two restaurants: the Brasserie for both Breakfast and Dinner plus a lovely separate Curry Room. The standard of food in both was excellent, although some of the wines by the glass was fairly pricy, and the standard of service was excellent. There is also the option of eating Al Fresco for breakfast and lunch. A particular excellent feature is the standard of service and the friendliness of the staff throughout the hotel. The OGH sits on a hill above St.Peter Port Harbour with great views and is only a 5- minute walk to the shops and harbour. However bear in mind you are walking uphill on the way back. We felt 5 nights was ideal as it gives ample opportunity to see Guernsey and also visit Herm and/or Sark. Although it is expensive at ca £550/ night B&B it really is worth the money for the really relaxing break the OGH provides.

Sensational hotel with absolutely impeccable service from all the staff, from the Prosecco welcome to the final good bye we were very well looked after. Bed was very comfortable, room was small but perfectly formed, bathroom very pleasant. Breakfast is a mix of continental buffet and made-to-order hot dishes. Well located in the town with a short walk to the shops and restaurants. Highly recommended.

Visited this charming hotel for afternoon tea whilst visiting Guernsey and it was all we could have hope for - and more. Staff from the reception hall to the tea lounge were friendly, helpful and very professional and made us feel welcome for the duration of our visit. We had been planning to visit for some time but covid had prevented us doing so, but the wait was worthwhile. The food was lovely and plentiful - so much so that we took away some cakes and scones in the box that they supplied so we could enjoy them later. Lots of different teas to pick from and a lovely selection of savoury and sweet treats. All in a lovely relaxed atmosphere. Parking outside was limited and I had to move the car part way through the afternoon to avoid any problems with the wardens, but that was no real trouble. Overall a delightful visit and one that I am sure we will repeat.

By far the greatest thing about the hotel is the staff, from the initial meet throughout our stay every member of staff we came into contact with were amazingly friendly. All were very smartly dressed and nothing was too much trouble. We stayed in a room with balcony and sea view which was lovely although maybe a little let down by the bathroom which although spotlessly clean could do with some attention. The balcony had a huge window which could be lowered or closed if it turned chilly. The cafetière and fresh ground coffee with the tea tray was a lovely touch. Lovely bedding and comfortable beds. A fabulous week’s stay.

I think that this hotel is in need of an update. Yes it is traditional but its stuck in a timewarp and in need of modernisation. Very dated rooms that lack the amenities you expect from a 5 star hotel. Other traditional hotels do well to marry the history with modern conveniences..this does not. The staff are incredibly attentive and friendly and are one of its assets. The pool area is fabulous, a sunny sheltered sun trap even on cooler days! The bed, one of the best I've slept in! The restaurants again are too dated in decor and food choices...they are aiming towards an older traditional clientele. I woukd definitely return to Guernsey but not the OGH which is a shame.

Very traditional, yet upscale hotel.
I stayed over lunch, enjoying a bar snack.
Good wine and champagne selection, they even have vegan lunch options, which were delicious.
Staff was extremely attentive, the entire place very clean.

Luxurious hotel. Real 5 star. Everything was great, the food, the service, but above all the room. We had the afternoon tea while we were there and it was excellent. We also had a meal in their curry restaurant which we really enjoyed.
Taxis are pretty hard to get on Guernsey. If you’re arriving by ferry, with a light case on wheels, you can walk to the OGH in 10-15 minutes. But you need to get the directions before you leave home as it’s not signposted. Otherwise, ask the hotel to arrange a car for you. There won’t be taxis waiting when you arrive.

The service at the restaurant was amazing. All the servers were so kind and helpful. Our server was Siya. He was excellent. He was so sweet to the three of us. We absolutely loved him and our whole experience at The Brasserie Resturaunt at the Old Government House.

Our first trip to Guernsey and what a delight our hotel turned out to be. Not only was it a beautiful , traditional building beautifully furnished but the setting was perfect too. The breakfast selection was beyond belief and we were able to choose something different every day, that was apart from the fabulous fresh fruits, cold meats and cheeses on offer. But what absolutely made our holiday very special was the kind and caring staff who managed to be both friendly and professional at the same time whether it was the chamber maids , receptionist waiters or concierge, they were an absolute delight.

Our family spent an afternoon in Guernsey and wanted a nice high tea. The Old Government House Hotel took our reservation and accommodated us early since we had limited time. The staff and servers were so polite, pleasant and accommodating that they made the visit very enjoyable.
There were several interesting tea choices. I chose a caramel black tea that was almost dessert. The sandwiches, scones and cakes were all lovely and delicious. We all overindulged because we couldn’t resist sampling everything.
The atmosphere was perfect. We sat outside since it was such a nice day and even allowed us a small sample to take back to enjoy when we get home to the states.
Thank you guys for making Guernsey such a pleasant experience.

Very pleasant stop for afternoon tea at this hotel. The staff were unfailingly polite and helpful and the tea was not overpriced considering what a beautiful setting this was overlooking the harbour. I had the vanilla earl grey tea, a first and two types of scones with cream and jam.

Particular shout out to the hotel employee, Syia from South Africa, he could not have been better and is a credit to this family friendly hotel chain.

Stayed here for 3 nights in Sark suite with family - hotel experience was great from pre-arrival through to departure. Staff were international, professional but very engaging - especially the experienced Concierge (who is clearly a local institution in himself) and his younger colleagues. So friendly, quick to whisk the car off to park, and chatting about advice on touring the island with hints and tips.

The style of the hotel is eclectic - if you want modern clean lines it's probably not right for you, but the overall experience is totally right and authentic for the property. The layout is quite random, our room was up and down and then up stairs, as you move form older to newer buildings etc. but was part of the fun.

Bar was top-class, great cocktails and choice of drinks - welcoming to our 13 year old daughter too as we played games pre-dinner. Brasserie was great - very bright and welcoming for breakast and dinner, with booths, larger tables and recently renovated vaulted fabric ceiling. Small high quality breakfast buffet with hot choices cooked to order and wide-ranging including kippers and kedgeree.

Room had two showers (no bath), separate space for camp-bed in lounge and very comfy super-king main bed. Two delightlful semi-enclosed balconies with electric windows that opened to views across the port and out to Sark. Well appointed, with a huge range of tea and fresh coffee in a cafetiere with sweet treats with turndown.

We will definitely be back - it was clear many guests are regulars, and you can see why!

The customer service and attention to detail at the OGH is truly second to none, and all of the staff go out of their way to provide a warm welcome. The amenities are also excellent, with a nice spa area, well stocked gym and heated outdoor pool. Situated in the centre of Saint Peter Port, the OGH is highly recommended!

Excellent food and exemplary service, Byron is a star, Old Government House has a lovely atmosphere and ambience.

Nothing more to add, but for some reason TripAdvisor wants a huge long essay so this is me wasting space

We've visited this hotel previously but were prevented for a while due to the pandemic. This was our first getaway since things have improved and we really needed a break. We knew we would get the best service at the OGH, as we have visited a few Red Carnation hotels and love the brand, and we weren't disappointed. The hotel's reception area has been remodelled since we were last there and it is a great improvement. The staff are unfailingly helpful, friendly and nothing is too much trouble. Breakfasts are wonderful. Rooms are comfortable, as are beds and the most wonderful pillows. We had a medical issue at the end of our stay and no one could have done more to help us resolve the issue. So grateful and appreciative to all staff members. Thank you.

Enjoyed afternoon tea in the garden - service was superb - scones were great - sandwiches and cakes could have been more sophisticated for the price

My wife and I stayed at the OGH for a week from 14th May as an early celebration of our 25th wedding anniversary and notified them of that fact expecting perhaps a bottle of fizz in the room
However when we arrived we found out that we had been upgraded to a sea view room with a balcony which was amazing as well as that bottle of fizz and that got the holiday off to an incredible start.
Throughout our stay we were treated to wonderful service from all the staff; nothing was too much trouble from parking the car for us to dealing immediately with a couple of minor issues. We ate breakfast at the hotel every day as well as dining there on three occasions and the food was consistently excellent.
I must give a special mention to Siya, one of the Brasserie staff who was always chatty and cheerful and Jaro whose customer service skills were exceptional.
The hotel is simply lovely and the good old fashioned service really helped us to recharge and enjoy our stay. We can’t recommend it enough!

My partner and I have just spent 4 nights at OGH. From the moment we arrived till the point of check out we received superb service, we were made to feel very special. All the staff worked as a professional, friendly and experienced team. Alessandro, Wynn, Siya, Frederick and everyone else - thank you. The choice of breakfasts is amazing and delicious. We had dinner in the brasserie - really good food, beautiful presentation. The rooms were serviced twice per day. There is a spa, gym and outdoor pool.
I would definitely stay here again

First off, I should say the hotel is spotless, well decorated and food is very good quality. I asked for a room on a high floor ahead of my stay and ended up in a room on the first floor overlooking the kitchens and was woken up early one morning. I feel that this could have been avoided if I was given a room on a high floor as requested, the hotel wasn't that busy. I asked to be moved and was shown another room on the first floor but the pub nearby was outside this room so this was no better and I stayed where I was. The staff were very friendly but not always accommodating and I expected better from a 5 star hotel. It is a nice hotel and with the right room my stay would have been better so would probably stay again
