A truly excellent 5 star hotel with superb staff . We had an upgrade to a King Room as we went out of the main season . The bed had an excellent mattress and the temperature of the room was just right for us ( 18 C ). We stayed for a week and had dinner every night except one . The cooked food was of a uniformly very high standard and was reasonably priced for the quality . The hotel is also very convenient for the shopping centre and buses.

A cocktail masterclass in the Crown bar was a part of the deal when staying at the sister hotel and we were not disappointed. Over the course of two hours plus Jeffery took us from the basics of making a Daiquiri through to more advanced cocktails, techniques and shortcuts. Jeffery was extremely flexible adapting to the preferences of the class and kept up a regular supply of samples which were supported by some excellent canapés. The session was hugely enjoyable, educational and a great way to spend a wet and windy Sunday afternoon. I just hope I can remember it all.

Attended a cocktail masterclass while on holiday at sister hotel. The session was brilliant. The 3 bar staff were all so lovely-friendly, excellent teachers and made it a great evening. Took us from complete amateurs to having some skill!

We had dinner at the curry room. Coming from South Africa we were expecting it to be good.....but oh my word! It was heavenly! Our waitress was lovely and so helpful! Thank you to Shaminee and Krysta wo also helped make an effort to make sure me and mom would love it!
I will be back at least once a week for a curry now!

We had a wonderful stay at the OGH. The staff here were all incredible and absolutely nothing was too much trouble. The staff are a massive credit to this beautiful hotel and we would definitely stay here again should we ever return to Guernsey.

This rare hotel is full of old world charm and with incredibly special personal service with a lovely dining experience. The staff were incredibly kind to my elderly parents and went out of their way to discretely care for their particular needs

Really enjoyed our stay at this beautiful hotel. Really lovely big rooms. Comfortable lounge and bar area. Very pretty restaurant with an excellent breakfast. Nice heated pool for a dip, even in inclement weather. Although the hotel is atop a hill, the 71 bus service drops you just round the corner if you cannot face the walk up. Very near to shops and the harbour. The 71 bus is also handy coming from the airport. The service at the hotel from the lovely staff was excellent. Lots of nice little touches and cannot wait to stay again.

An outstanding hotel stay. The staff were incredibly helpful, the service was the best we’ve ever experienced anywhere! Our Queen double room was very comfortable, everything you’d expect at a high quality hotel. The food in the restaurant was outstanding, favourites were the hot and cold seafood platter and fillet steak, which was cooked to perfection. We also had afternoon tea which we thoroughly enjoyed. The wine list is extensive but it is expensive.
The hotel is a five minute walk from the centre of St Peter Port, ideal for shopping and exploring the island by bus.
A thoroughly enjoyable five night break.

We have just returned from a 4 night stay at The Old Government House Hotel, celebrating our recent 80th birthdays. We have nothing but praise and appreciation for the fantastic staff throughout the hotel, all of whom were totally focused on providing excellent service. We would particularly like to mention Kriss (Reception Manager), Roberto (Concierge), Alessandro, Pamela and Tenjye (Restaurant) and Sukiyaki (Housekeeping) all of whom went 'above and beyond' to make our stay comfortable and enjoyable.
The delightful chocolate birthday cake, left in our room on our first day, was a lovely surprise, and very much appreciated. We ate two evening meals and an Afternoon Tea at the hotel, all of which were delicious and very well presented and served. The breakfast menu was exceptional, and the Continental Selection extensive.
The hotel decor, furniture and furnishings were attractive and absolutely in character with the building, and the bed was very comfortable. It must be a constant challenge to maintain such a beautiful old building and we feel this was generally in very good order.
Our stay at the OGH was wonderful and has provided us with many happy memories. We hope to be able to return to this lovely hotel and beautiful Island one day.

Our 6 day stay at the OGH was arranged via channelescapes, to celebrate our 'ruby' wedding anniversary. To begin with we so impressed with the initial welcome by the front of house staff. Our room was very adequate for us and all the facilities were much appreciated. Everyone of the staff were very attentive and always customer focused. We really enjoyed the sumptuous breakfasts on offer which set us up for the day! We had 3 evening meals at the hotel [the other 2 we were out on trips] which were all excellent and well prepared. On the actual anniversary day, after the meal, we were treated to a celebration cake which was a great surprise [I expect our cards on the dressing table gave it away!]. Amazingly, another couple on the next table to us were also celebrating their 'ruby' and were presented with a similar cake too. Overall, we were treated so very well, it felt like we were part of a family, only better!!

We found this a very classy and yet informal and modern facilities hotel. The location is good, just a short walk from the main shopping and sea front and with great views. The Brasserie restaurant was excellent (we ate breakfast, one dinner and one afternoon tea there and all were great.

What really made this superb though is the staff. All were very friendly, helpful and effective and there were always plenty of staff on hand for us even when they were also hosting formal event dinners.

And a big thanks for how well they coped with out arrival being delayed by 24 hours by weather

We have stayed in OGH couple of times over 10 years ago but the rooms were not convenient, too many steps and some distance. Being a little older I asked the hotel for a more convenient room with the same facilities in advance. They responded immediately confirming they have taken my request in hand. On our arrival we were very pleased to be taken to 138 as it was much more convenient, a bright room with excellent sea views and a welcoming card and anniversary treats.

The curtains could to with rope ties as opposed chairs the hold them back. Facilities in the room were excellent and my wife really enjoyed the bath, the right size etc, but for me the shower is too small. I think it is possible to make it a little bigger from the space in the bathroom. Nevertheless all the other facilities of the shower were good.

We were impressed with all the staff, particularly the multicultural aspect. It was refreshing to see the staff from so many countries abroad enjoying their work in Guernsey.

Breakfast excellent choice, and restaurant/bar good too.

A small point when checking out there was a £10 daily service for tips, for other staff etc, but we were told they could remove if we want. Personally that helped me a I wanted to leave something extra but perhaps this should have been mentioned beforehand.

The staff were outstanding throughout our four day stay. Although not to my taste, the decor was cohesive and appropriate throughout. Breakfast was brilliant with a range of menu items including healthy options ( the Greek yoghurt and berries were fantastic). Our room was small with too much furniture in my opinion. A couple of drawers couldn’t open because the chairs were in the way. The bed was very comfortable and I slept well. Sometimes I was woken by the noise of bottles being recycled, presumably into a lorry? The evening turn down service was welcome and the in-room tea and coffee facilities were good. The bathroom was clean and functional, if showing its age a bit. However, there wasn’t an obvious place for personal toiletries, so used the window sill by the bath. Generally the decor in the room was on the verge of becoming a bit tired, but nothing to complain about. The ornate headboard could have done with a deeper dust and the art work was horrible…again, personal taste! Overall, we had a lovely time. The staff made it for me; very hard working and professional. Thank you.

What a wonderful hotel! It has been over 20 years since we stayed in Guernsey and after staying at this beautiful place we can’t wait to return again soon, hopefully next year. From the moment we arrived at the hotel we were made to feel so welcome and at home by the lovely Head Concierge, Roberto. Breakfast in the mornings were a real treat with delicious food and everything so well run under the friendly and most helpful Alessandro, the Restaurant Manager. Everything about our stay at the Old Government House Hotel was excellent, I honestly cannot find fault with anything and all the staff were a delight.

This was our Second Visit to OGH in Guernsey.

The Service is 10* at this hotel, all the staff are on top of their game.

The food, drink, atmosphere is brilliant and the beds are super comfortable.

Alessandro and his team were amazing in the Restaurant as was Roberto and his Team in the Concierge.

Looking forward to the 3rd time in the near future!

Thank you!

Best Regards,

I would be happy to recommend the OGH to my friends. Thank you and your team for making our Guernsey vacation so pleasant.

Kind regards from the heart of Switzerland Toni & Brigitte

My wife and I were in Guernsey for the weekend to celebrate our ruby (40th) wedding anniversary. We stayed in one of the suites (the Sark Suite) with a view over the harbour. We ate in the Brasserie on two of our three nights at the hotel.

I agree with some of the other comments made in recent reviews of the hotel. Our room was spacious and comfortable, but the decor was a little bit tired. The food was very good. What really set the hotel apart for us, though, was the service. We have been fortunate to have stayed in many good hotels over the years, but the level of service that we enjoyed at The OGH was second to none. Every member of staff that we came across was delightful - and nothing was too much trouble. It is invidious to single out any individual, but Roberto (the Head Concierge) deserves a special mention.

The OGH is a lovely hotel, just a short walk to the harbour. We had a Queen room, not too big but ok. However the bathroom is rather on the small side and tired. There shower screen could be replaced as could the bath, enamel was wearing off. The bed although was very comfortable. The treats in the evening were lovely.

The other half used the gym, I used hot tub/spa once unfortunately. This was due to the fact if you’re out for the day it is not available after 17:30, which to me does not make sense, hence 4 out of 5.

The breakfast is lovely, lots of choice and nothing too much trouble.

Worth a stay.

Let's have some positive feedback : great location , all the team members were delightful , food and beverage very good , dinner on the first night exceptional , bed was very comfortable and the best part of the room , the view wasn't bad . Room 138 is not 5 star - frankly nothing like ! I refer to the fist line of your Website which states " Throw open your windows and breathe deep " .... well you can't as they are wedged shut and the room was both stuffy & warm which is not solved with the air conditioning. We resorted to keeping them open about 5cm with blocks of wood supplied by the guy who came to do room service. The shower measured no more than 70cm x 70cm square. This is not 5 star and for a price of over £500 per night frankly not up to scratch. If there are occupants in the room above you are then kept awake until they go to bed by squeaky floorboards and that can get quite annoying. I will balance these observations by acknowledging the age of the hotel. Then don't big yourself up about being 5 start if frankly the building isn't albeit the staff are.

The Old Government House is an outstanding hotel with a competent manager. The staff is attentive, friendly and helpful whether it is the front desk, housekeeping or F&B. The rooms are pleasant with lots of natural light. The garden is very nice with beautiful bushes and many private spaces. The food is good and the restaurant cozy. A really excellent establishment.

Can,t praise the Hotel enough, staff were all excellent ,couldn't do enough for us
My wife is in a wheelchair and the Hotel was well equipped to ease our way through it.
My only word of warning to anyone in a wheelchair going to Guernsey, the Island is not suitable for wheelchairs couldn't get to herm, or many attractions ,or Pubs,of course this not the Hotel fault, but the powers that be in Guernsey need to take a hard look at this situation in light of the aging population.

We stayed at this lovely hotel for a week a few days ago. We cannot fault the service and excellent care that we were given whilst there. Every one of the staff were so helpful and kind and nothing was too much trouble for them. Breakfasts were delicious as also the evening dining. The hotel is situated on a hill in a very convenient position for the town and harbour. Thank you OGH for a wonderful stay, we will most certainly be back.

This hotel goes to exceptional effort to live up to it's 5 star rating . The hotel staff were amazing & so friendly & helpful - faultless in all aspects! Andrew & Abigail deserve a special mention but I have to say that all the staff we encountered were all first class.
Our assigned room was beautiful & very comfortable with spectacular sea views. I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel to anyone & should we visit Guernsey again we will stay here again.
